What is PRP for the face?
PRP for the face pairs platelet-rich plasma (PRP) with microneedling in a single visit. A provider draws a small sample of your blood, concentrates the platelets from it, and works that concentrate into your skin through the tiny channels microneedling creates. Some people know it by its nickname, the vampire facial. At The Spa by Sheena, PRP with microneedling is $250 per session, performed by our nurse practitioner Becca (MSN, FNP-C) or our RN Angie, under the oversight of our medical director, Dr. Arledge, a plastic surgeon. We have been doing injectable and regenerative work in Lubbock since 2016. One honest note up front: PRP is not an FDA-approved drug or treatment. It is a procedure, and the evidence behind it is promising but still mixed. A consultation is the right place to find out whether it fits your skin, and what it realistically can and cannot do. What to expect from PRP microneedling
Your first visit is a consultation. Becca or Angie reviews your health history, the medications you take, and what is going on with your skin before anyone recommends a plan. PRP with microneedling is not right for everyone. It is generally not done over an active skin infection or an active acne breakout in the treatment area, and it is avoided if you have a low platelet count or a bleeding disorder, or if you take blood-thinning medication. If you scar easily or tend to form keloids, tell your provider, because needling can set that off. It is not used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Give your provider your full history and every medication you are on.
On treatment day, expect minimal downtime. Your skin will look flushed and feel warm, a little like a mild sunburn, and that redness usually settles within about one to three days. Most people head back to their normal routine quickly, with sun protection.
Be patient with results. Any change is gradual. Skin often looks fresher within a few weeks, but the real work is collagen, and collagen builds over months. There is no standardized schedule, but many providers recommend a short series, often around three sessions a few weeks apart, then occasional maintenance. We cannot promise a specific result, and no honest provider will. Your provider will set a plan around your skin and your goals at consultation.

Two things are happening in a PRP facial. Microneedling uses fine needles to make many small, controlled channels in the skin. Your body reads those micro-injuries as something to repair, and that repair response is what prompts new collagen. PRP is the second half. Your platelets carry growth factors, the signaling proteins your body uses to heal, and the idea is to concentrate those growth factors and deliver them into the channels the needles open, right where the skin is already primed to rebuild. It is the same regenerative material behind our other PRP services, applied to facial skin.
Here is how a session works. A provider draws a small amount of your blood, the way a routine lab draw feels. That blood goes into a centrifuge, an FDA-cleared device that spins it fast enough to separate the platelet-rich layer from the rest. Be clear on what that clearance means: the FDA clears the centrifuge, but it has not approved PRP itself as a facial treatment, so this use is considered off-label. Your provider then treats the face with microneedling and works the concentrated plasma into the skin. We use a SkinPen device for the needling. The whole visit takes under an hour.
On the evidence: studies of microneedling with PRP for skin texture and acne scarring are encouraging, and some report better results and satisfaction than microneedling on its own. But the studies are small, they prepare and apply the plasma differently, and results vary from one to the next. There is no single standardized protocol.
PRP facial vs PRP filler vs standalone microneedling
How PRP microneedling compares to standard microneedling
PRP is versatile, and this is one of several ways we use it. For thinning hair, PRP hair restoration injects the same concentrate into the scalp and runs $675 per session. Used the way a filler is, PRP filler is injected to add subtle volume and is priced at $700. Same starting material, drawn from your own blood, aimed at different goals.
Microneedling also stands on its own. If you want the collagen-building needling without PRP, SkinPen microneedling is offered on its own at $450. Which option fits you depends on your skin and what you are trying to change, and that is exactly what a consultation sorts out. Does PRP microneedling hurt?
Recovery is about 5 days, similar to standard microneedling. Day 1: red and slightly puffy. Day 2–3: redness fading. Day 4–5: fully recovered.
