What is SkinPen microneedling?

SkinPen microneedling is a collagen-building treatment for acne scars, fine lines, and rough texture. At The Spa by Sheena in Lubbock, one SkinPen session is $450. Microneedling is also called collagen induction therapy, and the name explains the idea. A sterile cartridge of very fine needles makes thousands of tiny, controlled channels in the skin. Your body treats each channel as a small injury and repairs it, and that repair lays down fresh collagen and elastin. Nothing is added to your skin. The treatment simply prompts it to rebuild, and the change fills in over the following weeks.

We use the SkinPen device, made by Crown Aesthetics. SkinPen was the first FDA-cleared microneedling device, cleared in 2018 for treating facial acne scars in adults 22 and older, and later cleared for wrinkles on the neck. Other microneedling devices are FDA-cleared too, so first is not the same as only. What separates a good result from an average one has less to do with the pen and more to do with the person holding it and the plan behind it.

What to expect from SkinPen microneedling

Plan for some redness afterward. Right after SkinPen your skin looks flushed and feels tight, a lot like a mild sunburn. For most people that settles within one to three days, and you can head back to your normal day right away. Skip makeup for about 24 hours, and give your skin gentle, hydrating products while it calms down.

Microneedling is not a one-and-done treatment. Because it works by building collagen, the change shows up gradually rather than the day of your appointment. Most people start to notice smoother texture over the first few weeks, with fuller results around the three-month mark as collagen keeps remodeling underneath. For acne scars and deeper concerns, we usually plan a series of about three to six sessions spaced roughly four weeks apart. We cannot promise a specific outcome, and results do vary from one person to the next.

Sun protection matters most in the days right after. Your skin is more sensitive, so use a broad-spectrum sunscreen and stay out of direct sun. Hold off on retinoids, exfoliating acids, and vitamin C for a few days until your skin settles. SkinPen is not right for everyone, and there are times we will postpone or advise against it: an active breakout or skin infection in the treatment area, a tendency to form keloid or raised scars, recent isotretinoin (Accutane) use, or pregnancy. Inside a SkinPen microneedling appointment

Every SkinPen visit starts with a numbing step. We apply a topical numbing cream and leave it on for about 20 to 30 minutes, so most people find the treatment very tolerable rather than painful. Once your skin is numb, your provider glides the SkinPen across the area in overlapping passes. The needles move fast and stay shallow, and the needle depth is set to the area and the concern being treated. Most people describe a light scratchy or buzzing feeling instead of real pain. Treating a full face usually takes about 30 minutes of actual needling.

Your treatment is performed by our licensed staff, working under our medical director Dr. Arledge, a plastic surgeon. The Spa by Sheena was founded by Sheena Klos, a CIDESCO Master Esthetician, and has been open in Lubbock since 2016. SkinPen vs Microneedling + PRP vs RF Microneedling — when to pick each

How SkinPen compares to PRP microneedling and RF microneedling

SkinPen on its own is $450. Many people add platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, to the same session. We draw a small amount of your own blood, spin it down to concentrate the platelets, and apply that over the freshly needled skin. Adding microneedling with PRP is a $250 add-on on top of the $450 base, so it is an upgrade you choose, not a free bundle.

SkinPen is not the only way to resurface, either. RF microneedling with Fractora sends radiofrequency heat through the needles and reaches deeper, which suits skin laxity and deeper scars, and it runs $300 to $650 depending on the area. If your main concern is surface dullness or buildup rather than scarring, a chemical peel or dermaplaning can be a gentler place to start, and an IPL photo facial targets the brown spots and redness that needling does not. Which one fits you is a conversation, not a default. Your provider will map a plan at your consultation.

Recovery from SkinPen is about 5 days. Day 1: looks like a sunburn. Day 2–3: redness fading, possible mild flaking. Day 4–5: skin healed and fresh underneath. Use heavy moisturizer, gentle cleanser, and strict SPF during healing. Skip retinoids and active acids for 5–7 days.

What's the recovery from SkinPen?

SkinPen Microneedling is $450 per session. PRP-enhanced version (PRP for Face / Microneedling) is $250. Series of 3 sessions: package pricing available. Membership reduces costs significantly.

How much does SkinPen cost in Lubbock?
