What are professional skincare treatments?

Skincare treatments are the regular-upkeep side of what we do. Cleansing, exfoliation, a little hydration, and the steady maintenance that keeps skin looking healthy between everything else. They sit apart from our medical-grade work, the lasers and the injectables, which go after deeper concerns. Most of it comes down to one fact about skin: it renews itself. New cells form in the lower epidermis and push upward, and by the time they reach the surface they are flat and dead, stacked in the layer called the stratum corneum. That layer sheds on its own, but it can build up and look dull. Exfoliation clears the buildup so newer skin shows through. That thread runs through a facial, a peel, dermaplaning, and microdermabrasion alike.

The treatments here go about that in different ways. A facial cleanses, exfoliates, and hydrates in one sitting, matched to how your skin is behaving that day. Our Glo2 facials are a branded facial line that runs from a quick express treatment up to a Platinum service that pairs the facial with laser resurfacing. Chemical peels use acids, alpha hydroxy acids like glycolic and lactic or the beta hydroxy salicylic, to loosen the bonds between surface cells so the top layer sheds more evenly. Dermaplaning does a similar job with a blade, scraping away dead surface skin and the fine vellus hair people call peach fuzz. Microdermabrasion is the mechanical version, buffing off that outer layer of dead skin with a diamond tip or fine crystals.

Two more services round out the category. Waxing handles hair removal by area, and lash and brow covers tinting, lifts, lamination, and shaping. None of this is medical treatment for a diagnosed condition. If what you want to change is set-in pigment, an acne scar, or a wrinkle, a facial will not do it, and a good esthetician will point you toward our laser or advanced treatment pages instead. Honest upkeep is the promise here, not a fix for everything.

What's included in our skincare menu

Here is the full skincare menu. Use it as a directory: find what you are after, then open the page built for it.

  • Facials — cleansing, exfoliation, extractions when your skin can take them, and hydration, matched to your skin that day. From $90 for a Mini, with a European facial at $165, a Back facial at $175, and a fully Customized facial at $195.
  • Glo2 facials — a branded facial line, from $215 for the Express up to $525 for the Platinum, which adds laser resurfacing to the facial. A Glo2 RF option runs $150 to $225.
  • Chemical peels — acid exfoliation to smooth texture and even out tone, from $90 for an AHA peel up to $375 for the ZO 3-Step. The botanical Herbal Green Peel is priced by method: Fresh Up $195, Energy $315, Classic $495.
  • Dermaplaning — a blade removes dead surface skin and peach fuzz. The fine hair grows back the same as before, not thicker or darker. It is $90 on its own, or $225 added to a facial.
  • Microdermabrasion — $215. Diamond-tip or crystal exfoliation that buffs off the outermost layer of dead skin to leave it smoother.
  • Waxing — hair removal by area, $15 to $145 depending on how large the area is.
  • Lash and brow — brow wax $25, brow lamination $80, lash tint $35, lash lift $80.

Two honest notes. Skincare like this works best on a schedule, not in one visit; most people come back every four to six weeks to hold their results. And none of it is a guarantee. What a treatment can do for your skin, and whether it suits your skin, is something we settle at your appointment before we start.

Who performs skincare treatments at The Spa by Sheena

Your skincare treatments are done by licensed estheticians, not handed off to whoever is free. The Spa has been open in Lubbock since 2016, and our founder, Sheena Klos, is a CIDESCO Master Esthetician, an international esthetics credential. We operate under our medical director, Dr. Arledge, a plastic surgeon, which is the physician-supervised structure our medical-grade services run inside.

Every appointment starts with a look at your skin. Your esthetician checks how it is behaving that day, asks what you want to change, and picks the treatment and the strength to match, or tells you plainly when something is not right for you. Peels and dermaplaning come in different grades, and the wrong one on reactive skin can leave it worse. That is also why we will not promise a specific result. Skin is individual, and results come from steady care over time.

One practical note. These are cosmetic services, so they are not covered by insurance, and we do not bill it; you pay for your treatment directly. When you are ready, book online or call (806) 701-5840, and we will match you to the treatment that fits what you want to change.

FAQ

Your questions,  answered

We’ve answered some of the most common questions below to help make your experience simple, transparent, and stress-free.

We're a medical day spa offering five categories of treatments: injectables (Botox, fillers, Sculptra, Kybella), skincare treatments (facials, peels, microneedling, dermaplaning), laser treatments (hair removal, IPL, PiQo4, tattoo removal), advanced treatments (RF microneedling, PRP, plasma pen, sclerotherapy), and wellness services (GLP-1 weight management, hormone replacement, NAD+, B12). All under physician oversight.

What services does The Spa by Sheena offer?

8713 Milwaukee Ave #200, Lubbock, TX 79424. We're easy to find, with ample parking. Hours: Monday 10am–3pm, Tuesday through Friday 9am–6pm, Saturday 10am–3pm, closed Sunday. Call (806) 701-5840 for directions or to book.

Where is The Spa by Sheena located?

Yes. We're a medical day spa operating under physician oversight, with Patricia Arledge, MD (plastic surgeon) as our Medical Director. All injectable, laser, and wellness treatments are performed by licensed clinical providers following medical protocols. We're regulated as a medical practice, not a beauty salon—a meaningful difference for safety and outcomes.

Is The Spa by Sheena a medical spa?

Sheena Klos founded The Spa in 2016 and serves as Spa Director and a Medical Aesthetician. Her vision: bring physician-overseen aesthetic and wellness care to Lubbock with the consistency of a major-city medical spa and the personal attention of a local business.

Who founded The Spa by Sheena?

Our clinical team includes Aesthetic Injectors Rebecca Fant, MSN, FNP-C and Angela Hunsaker, RN; Medical Aestheticians Sheena Klos, Posey Pence, and Victoria Henry; Brayden Mitchell; and Client Experience Provider Madison Brown. All work under the medical direction of Patricia Arledge, MD, our plastic surgeon Medical Director.

Who are the providers at The Spa?

Book online at thespalubbock.com or call (806) 701-5840. Most treatments have online booking available 24/7. For complex services (injectables, lasers, wellness), we recommend starting with a free consultation so we can build the right treatment plan together.

How do I book an appointment?

Yes—consultations for injectables, lasers, advanced treatments, and wellness services are complimentary and carry no obligation. We'll evaluate your concerns, recommend a treatment plan, and give you honest pricing. You decide if and when you want to move forward.

Do you offer free consultations?

Yes. Our membership program gives you discounted per-service pricing across the menu, priority booking, and early access to new treatments and events. Membership tiers fit different commitment levels—we'll help you choose what fits your goals. Ask at your consultation or call for current pricing.

Do you offer memberships?

No. We do not accept or bill insurance. Most aesthetic and wellness services are elective and are not covered. For medical treatments such as Botox for hyperhidrosis, some plans will reimburse you directly, and we can provide documentation for you to submit, though coverage is up to your insurer. We accept all major credit cards, debit cards, and HSA/FSA cards where the service qualifies.

Do you accept insurance?

Three things. First, physician oversight: our Medical Director is a plastic surgeon, not a general practitioner. Second, our team's licensure: every clinical role is held by a licensed professional appropriate to the service—no shortcuts. Third, our approach: we'd rather under-treat and have you come back happy than over-treat and have you regret it. We've been operating in Lubbock since 2016.

How is The Spa different from other med spas in Lubbock?

We work with first-time patients constantly. Bring your concerns—nothing is too small or too "obvious." We'll explain what each treatment does, what it can and can't change, and what makes sense for your goals and budget. There's no pressure to commit, no upselling, and no judgment about what brought you in.

What if I'm new to medical aesthetics?

Yes, and we encourage it. Reference photos help us understand your aesthetic preferences. We'll be honest about what's realistic with your facial structure and what isn't. Photos of yourself from earlier years are also useful if your goal is to recapture a previous look.

Can I bring photos to my consultation?

A facial is a maintenance treatment—cleansing, exfoliation, extractions, mask, hydration. A chemical peel uses controlled acid exposure to remove damaged layers of skin and trigger renewal underneath. Facials are gentle enough for monthly use. Peels are stronger and used every 4–8 weeks depending on intensity. Most patients build a routine that includes both.

What's the difference between a facial and a chemical peel?

Every 4–6 weeks for maintenance—your skin cycles through a full turnover every 28 days, so monthly facials keep texture, hydration, and tone consistent. If you're treating an active concern like acne or melasma, weekly or bi-weekly visits during the correction phase, then monthly maintenance after.

How often should I get a facial?

Microneedling uses tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. Your body responds by producing collagen and elastin in the treated area. The result, over a series of 3 to 4 sessions, is improved texture, smaller pores, softened acne scars and stretch marks, and overall firmer skin. We use the SkinPen device, which is the only FDA-cleared microneedling system.

What is microneedling and what does it actually do?

Yes—it's one of the most effective non-laser treatments for acne scars. Microneedling triggers collagen remodeling in the scarred tissue, gradually filling and softening the depressions. Most patients see meaningful improvement after a series of 3 to 4 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Combining with PRP (microneedling + PRP) accelerates results further.

Can microneedling help with acne scars?

There's a brief tingling or warmth during application that fades within minutes. Light peels (ZO 3-step, AHA) feel like a sunburn for a few hours. Medical-grade peels (TCA, Herbal Green) feel more intense and may flake or peel visibly for 3–7 days afterward. We never push a stronger peel than your skin and schedule can handle.

Do chemical peels hurt?

No. That's a common myth. Dermaplaning removes fine vellus hair ("peach fuzz") at the surface, but it doesn't affect the hair follicle. Vellus hair grows back at the same color and texture as before. The blade also removes dead skin cells, leaving your skin smoother and your makeup application more flawless.

Will dermaplaning make my hair grow back thicker or darker?

Glo2 is a branded, multi-step facial: a gentle exfoliation, an active serum infusion, and a finishing lymphatic massage, weighted toward hydration and an immediate glow. Compared with a regular facial, it is the brand-system version rather than the traditional hands-on extraction facial. No downtime.

What's the Glo2 Facial and how is it different from a regular facial?

Most of our facials and Glo2 treatments are pregnancy-safe. We avoid retinoids, salicylic acid, hydroquinone, and certain essential oils during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Chemical peels, microneedling, and laser treatments are paused until after pregnancy. Tell us at booking and we'll customize the protocol.

Can I get a facial while pregnant?

Skincare treatment pricing varies. Facials range $90–$225 depending on type. Glo2 Facials: $150–$525 across variants. Chemical peels: $90–$375. SkinPen Microneedling: $450. PRP-enhanced microneedling: $250. See individual service pages for full pricing.

How much do skincare treatments cost in Lubbock?

It depends on whether you're treating active breakouts, post-acne marks, or scarring. For active acne we use a combination of medical-grade facials, peels (ZO 3-step or TCA), and targeted extractions. For post-acne dark spots: chemical peels and IPL. For acne scars (the textural kind): microneedling, RF microneedling, or PiQo4 laser. We'll build a custom plan after looking at your skin.

What treatment is best for acne?

Melasma needs a layered approach because it's driven by both pigment and inflammation. We typically combine a topical prescription regimen with in-office treatments: gentle peels (avoiding overly aggressive lasers that can worsen melasma), targeted IPL where appropriate, and consistent SPF. Treatment is ongoing maintenance, not a one-time fix—anyone promising a quick cure is misleading you.

What treatment is best for melasma?

Book a complimentary skin consultation. We'll evaluate your skin in person, review your concerns and history, and recommend a treatment plan with honest pricing. Online or phone diagnosis doesn't work for skin—we need to see you in our light. Call (806) 701-5840 or book online.
