PRP Treatments in Lubbock, TX

Platelet-rich plasma made from your own blood, used three ways at The Spa by Sheena in Lubbock: with microneedling for the face, for hair restoration, and as a regenerative filler.

How long a PRP appointment takes

Most PRP visits take well under an hour, from the blood draw to the finish. PRP is typically done as a short series of sessions spaced a few weeks apart, sometimes with occasional maintenance afterward. The exact schedule depends on which treatment you choose and is set with your provider at consultation. There is no single standardized protocol.

What kind of treatment is PRP?

PRP is an autologous regenerative procedure. Your own blood is drawn and spun in an FDA-cleared centrifuge to concentrate the platelets and their growth factors, then the plasma is injected or applied. It is minimally invasive and done in-office by our nurse practitioner Becca (MSN, FNP-C) or our RN Angie. PRP itself is not FDA-approved for hair or skin; the centrifuge is the cleared device, and these uses are off-label.

Where we use PRP

We use PRP on the face, in the under-eye area, and across thinning areas of the scalp, depending on the treatment. Because the plasma comes from your own blood, the same starting material is applied to different areas for different goals: skin texture with microneedling, follicle support for hair, or regenerative filler for the under-eye and face.

What PRP treats

People consider PRP for thinning hair, for skin texture and tone, and for under-eye skin quality. The evidence is strongest for androgenetic hair loss and more limited for facial and under-eye rejuvenation, which we state honestly. PRP is not a diagnosis and not a cure. A consultation determines whether it fits your goals, and consultation is always encouraged before any PRP treatment.

Your own blood, concentrated for the growth factors it carries

What is PRP?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma, and it starts with your own blood. A provider draws a small sample, the way a routine lab draw feels, and spins it in a centrifuge. That spin separates and concentrates the platelets, along with the growth factors they carry, the signaling proteins your body already uses to repair itself. What is left is a small amount of platelet-rich plasma. We then reinject or apply it where you want your skin, hair, or tissue to rebuild.

Because the plasma comes from you, it is autologous. Nothing synthetic goes in, so allergy and rejection are not the concern they can be with a foreign material. That is a large part of PRP's appeal. It asks your own biology to do the work, rather than adding a gel or a drug to the tissue.

At The Spa by Sheena, PRP is handled by our nurse practitioner Becca (MSN, FNP-C) or our RN Angie, under the oversight of our medical director, Dr. Arledge, a plastic surgeon. We have been doing injectable and regenerative work in Lubbock since 2016. This page is the overview. Each PRP treatment we offer has its own page with the pricing, the detail, and the honest evidence behind it.

What to expect from PRP treatment

Each PRP service starts with a blood draw (about 15 to 20 mL, similar to a routine lab). The blood is processed in the centrifuge for about 10 minutes while the treatment area is prepared with numbing (if applicable). Total visit time is 60 to 90 minutes.

You may have mild bruising at the draw site. The treatment area (scalp, face, or under-eye) may be tender, red, or mildly swollen for 24 to 48 hours after.

Skip strenuous exercise and alcohol for 24 hours. Most patients return to normal activity the next day. Results develop over weeks; plan the full series before evaluating outcome.

Benefits of PRP

NATURAL REGENERATION

Uses your own blood-derived growth factors—no synthetic products injected into your face or scalp.

Stimulates dormant hair follicles for thicker, fuller hair growth over a 3 to 4 session series.

SKIN REJUVENATION

When paired with microneedling, dramatically improves texture, fine lines, and scarring.

NO ALLERGIC RISK

Because PRP is your own biology, there's no risk of allergic reaction or product rejection.

Inside a PRP appointment

We use PRP three ways at The Spa. Same platelet concentrate, drawn from your own blood. Different targets, different goals.

  • PRP for the face with microneedling. Your provider needles the skin and works the concentrate into the tiny channels that creates, to support texture and tone. Some people know it by its nickname, the vampire facial. Our PRP facial with microneedling is $250 per session.
  • PRP hair restoration. The concentrate is injected into the thinning areas of your scalp to support the follicles that are still active. PRP hair restoration is $675 per session.
  • PRP filler. Here the plasma is injected the way a filler is, often in the delicate under-eye area, to build skin quality over time rather than to plump on contact. PRP filler is $700 per session.

Here is what a session looks like, whichever treatment you choose. A provider draws a small amount of your blood and spins it in a centrifuge, an FDA-cleared device that separates the platelet-rich layer from the rest. One point is worth being precise about. The FDA clears the centrifuge, but it has not approved PRP itself as a treatment for hair or skin, so these uses are off-label. That is standard for PRP everywhere; it is not unique to us. Once the plasma is ready, your provider injects or applies it, and most visits take well under an hour.

PRP also pairs with treatments we offer on their own. It is applied during microneedling, and it is one option people weigh against a traditional under-eye filler when the tear-trough area is the concern. Which path fits you is exactly what a consultation is for. You can also browse everything under our injectables menu.

Avoid NSAIDs for 72 hours before treatment

Before your first PRP treatment

Be honest with yourself about what PRP can and cannot do, and we will be honest too. The evidence is not the same across every use. PRP has its strongest support for androgenetic hair loss, where multiple randomized trials and meta-analyses have linked it to modest gains in hair density. For skin rejuvenation and the under-eye area, the results are promising but the evidence is thinner and more mixed. The American Academy of Dermatology puts it plainly: there is still little research showing that facial PRP works, or that it does not. We would rather say that up front than oversell it.

A few things hold true across all three treatments:

  • It usually takes a series. Most plans start with a few sessions spaced weeks apart, sometimes with maintenance later. There is no single standardized protocol.
  • Results are gradual. PRP works by prompting your own tissue to rebuild, so change builds over weeks to months, not overnight. Hair results in particular can take several months to a year.
  • It is not a guarantee. We cannot promise a specific result, and no honest provider will. PRP is not a cure and not a substitute for a diagnosis.

PRP is not right for everyone. It is generally avoided if you have a bleeding disorder or a low platelet count, if you take blood-thinning medication, or if you have an active infection in the treatment area. Some cancers and other health conditions can rule it out as well. It is not used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Your provider will review your full health history and every medication you take before recommending anything, so bring all of it. One practical note: we do not accept or bill insurance.

FAQ

Your questions,  answered

We’ve answered some of the most common questions below to help make your experience simple, transparent, and stress-free.

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is your own blood, drawn at your appointment and spun in a centrifuge to isolate the platelets and growth factors. Those concentrated growth factors—when injected back into your scalp, face, or applied during microneedling—signal your tissue to regenerate, build collagen, and repair. It's regenerative medicine using your own biology.

What is PRP and how does it work?

Three main applications: PRP for hair restoration (slowing or reversing thinning), PRP with microneedling for skin rejuvenation and acne scars, and PRP "filler" for under-eye hollows and overall facial volume in patients who prefer not to use synthetic fillers. We tailor the protocol to your specific concern.

What can PRP treat?

Yes for the right candidate. PRP is most effective for early-to-middle stage hair loss—androgenetic alopecia, receding hairline, thinning crown. It's less effective once a follicle has been dormant for years. Most patients need 3 to 4 initial sessions spaced 4 weeks apart, then maintenance every 6 to 9 months. Best results come from combining PRP with topical treatments like minoxidil.

Does PRP for hair actually work?

Varies by treatment. PRP Hair Restoration: 3 to 4 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart, then maintenance every 6 to 9 months. PRP for Face/Microneedling: 3 to 4 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. PRP Filler: 1 to 3 sessions depending on goal. Your provider will design the protocol at consultation.

How many PRP sessions will I need?

The injection itself is a series of small pinches—we use the smallest possible needles. For PRP microneedling, the treated area is numbed with topical anesthetic first. Scalp injections can be more sensitive—we can offer additional numbing if needed. Most patients tolerate it well.

Does PRP hurt?

Hair PRP: minor scalp soreness for 24 hours, no visible signs. Facial PRP/microneedling: 5 days of recovery with redness and mild swelling, like a sunburn. PRP filler: bruising and swelling for up to 7 days under the eyes. Plan around social events.

What's the downtime for PRP?

PRP is drawn from your own blood, so an allergic reaction to the material itself is not a concern the way it can be with a synthetic product. Your provider uses sterile technique and follows medical protocols throughout. That said, PRP is a procedure, not a risk-free one: bruising, swelling and tenderness are normal, and it is avoided if you have a bleeding disorder, a low platelet count, an active infection, or take blood-thinning medication. It is not FDA-approved; the centrifuge is an FDA-cleared device and this use is off-label.

Is PRP safe?

PRP services range $250–$700 depending on treatment: PRP for Face/Microneedling $250, PRP Hair Restoration $675, PRP Filler $700. Series pricing available. Membership reduces per-session cost.

How much does PRP cost in Lubbock?

Hair: new growth starts at 3–4 months, with full results from a series visible at 6–9 months. Facial: initial glow within days from microneedling effect; collagen building over 3 months. PRP filler: immediate plumping, with longer-term improvement over months as growth factors work.

When will I see PRP results?

Yes. PRP works well with microneedling (most common combination), with topical hair treatments like minoxidil and finasteride, with other injectables like fillers, and with laser treatments. We'll design a combined protocol if your goals warrant it.

Can PRP be combined with other treatments?

Most healthy adults are candidates. Not appropriate for patients with active blood disorders, on certain blood-thinning medications, with active infections, or with platelet dysfunction. We screen at consultation. PRP requires drawing your blood, so patients with needle-related anxiety should know that going in.
