Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion in Lubbock, $215: a diamond-tip mechanical exfoliation that buffs off the dull surface layer for smoother texture, brighter and more even tone, and better product absorption. Superficial and gentle, suited to most skin types, performed by a licensed esthetician and best done as a series.

How long a microdermabrasion facial takes

A single microdermabrasion session runs about 30 to 45 minutes, with no numbing needed. Because skin renews on roughly a monthly cycle, results build over a series spaced a few weeks apart, followed by maintenance sessions after that. Series and member pricing are available.

What kind of treatment is microdermabrasion?

An in-spa mechanical (physical) exfoliation performed by a licensed esthetician. A diamond-tipped wand with gentle suction buffs off the stratum corneum, the outer layer of dead skin. No acids and no needles. Downtime is minimal, with mild redness or tightness possible for the rest of the day and sunscreen recommended afterward.

Where we run microdermabrasion

Primarily the face and neck. Microdermabrasion works only at the skin's surface, so it addresses surface-level texture and tone rather than deeper layers.

What microdermabrasion treats

For surface-level maintenance: smoother texture, brighter and more even-looking tone, softer-looking fine lines and pores, and better absorption of the products applied afterward. Microdermabrasion is superficial and is not the right tool for deep wrinkles, deep or pitted acne scars, or set-in pigment and melasma, which need deeper treatments like microneedling, laser, or a medium chemical peel.

Our Microdermabrasion Services

A gentle mechanical exfoliation that buffs off the dull surface layer, honest about its limits

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a mechanical exfoliation. A licensed esthetician passes a diamond-tipped wand over your skin with gentle suction, buffing off the outermost layer of dead cells, the stratum corneum, in a few controlled passes. Some machines spray fine crystals to do the same job; ours uses the diamond tip. There are no acids and no needles. It is minimally invasive, which is the whole point. Taking off that dead surface layer also prompts the skin underneath to turn over and replace it, which is part of why a series does more than any single visit.

Clearing away that dull top layer does a few things at once. Skin looks smoother and brighter, tone reads more even, and the look of fine lines and enlarged pores softens. It also clears the way for your serums and moisturizer to sink in instead of sitting on top of dead cells. Because the treatment works only at the surface, it suits most skin types and tones, and it is a maintenance step rather than a one-time fix. Many people book it as part of ongoing skin care, sometimes alongside a facial.

What to expect from microdermabrasion

The treatment takes about 30 to 45 minutes of actual microdermabrasion within a 60-minute facial. Most patients describe the sensation as light suction and a scratchy feeling, similar to a cat licking the skin.

Mild pinkness for an hour or two post-treatment is typical. Some patients see slightly more pronounced texture briefly before the smoothing effect settles in.

Skip strong actives (retinol, AHA/BHA at home) for 24 hours. Use SPF religiously the day of treatment. Drink water.

Inside a microdermabrasion appointment

Microdermabrasion is $215 for a single session. It runs about 30 to 45 minutes, and there is no numbing because there is nothing to numb, just the wand and light suction moving over clean skin. Most people describe it as a mild scratchy or vibrating feeling, not pain. You can do it on a lunch break and go back to your day afterward.

Downtime is minimal. Your skin may look slightly pink or feel a little tight for the rest of the day, and that settles on its own. The fresh surface is more exposed to the sun right after, so wear sunscreen and be diligent about it for the next several days. We will tell you what to use and what to hold off on while your skin recovers.

One session leaves skin feeling smoother, but the results build with repetition. Your skin renews on roughly a monthly cycle, so microdermabrasion is usually done as a series spaced a few weeks apart, then on a maintenance schedule after that. Series and member pricing are available; ask us and we will lay out the options that fit your skin and your budget.

It has a couple of close relatives. Dermaplaning is also a physical exfoliation, but it uses a sterile blade instead of a wand, and it takes off peach fuzz along with dead surface skin, which microdermabrasion does not. Some people alternate the two, or add one onto a facial.

Chemical peels reach a similar goal by a different route. Instead of buffing the surface off mechanically, a peel uses acids to loosen the bonds between dead cells, and a medium or deeper peel can work below the surface where microdermabrasion cannot. If your concern sits deeper than the top layer, a peel or another treatment is the better call, and we will say so at your consultation.

A great fit for clients new to resurfacing

Before your first microdermabrasion treatment

Here is the honest limit. Microdermabrasion is superficial by design, so it does the surface-level work well and leaves the deeper work alone. It will not erase deep wrinkles, flatten deep or pitted acne scars, or lift set-in pigment and melasma. Those sit below the layer this treatment reaches and need something that goes deeper, like microneedling, laser, or a medium peel. Not sure where your concern fits? The full skincare menu lays out the options, and we would rather point you to the right one than sell you a result microdermabrasion cannot give.

One more thing about the name. Microdermabrasion is not dermabrasion. Dermabrasion is an aggressive medical resurfacing procedure that sands into deeper skin, needs real recovery time, and is reserved for significant scarring or damage. Microdermabrasion is the gentle, surface-only version, and it has largely taken the place of that older procedure for everyday skin maintenance.

It is not for every skin or every day. We hold off if you have an active breakout of inflamed acne, a rosacea flare, an active cold sore or skin infection, very sensitive or fragile skin, or if you have taken isotretinoin recently. If any of that applies, we assess it at your consultation and often steer you toward a better-timed or gentler option instead.

FAQ

Your questions,  answered

We’ve answered some of the most common questions below to help make your experience simple, transparent, and stress-free.

Microdermabrasion is mechanical exfoliation using a diamond-tip wand to gently remove the outer layer of dead skin cells. The wand also applies light suction to lift debris and stimulate circulation. Combined with a facial protocol (cleanse, mask, serums), it produces smoother texture, brighter tone, and better product absorption.

What is microdermabrasion?

Both exfoliate. Microdermabrasion uses a diamond-tip wand and works deeper into the skin. Dermaplaning uses a sterile blade and removes vellus (peach fuzz) hair along with surface skin. Microdermabrasion is better for texture and tone. Dermaplaning is better for smoothness and immediate makeup application. Many patients alternate between them.

How is microdermabrasion different from dermaplaning?

No—it feels like a slight tugging or scratchy sensation, similar to a cat's tongue. Most patients find it relaxing. Mild redness immediately after (looks like you've been in the wind) resolves within hours. No real downtime.

Does microdermabrasion hurt?

Every 4 weeks for maintenance. Patients with thicker or more congested skin can tolerate every 3 weeks during correction. Don't do it more frequently—your skin needs time to rebuild between treatments.

How often should I get microdermabrasion?

Dull tone, rough texture, mild congestion, fine lines, mild hyperpigmentation, and overall maintenance. It's not aggressive enough to treat deep wrinkles or significant scarring—those need stronger treatments (peels, microneedling, lasers). Microdermabrasion is excellent maintenance.

What does microdermabrasion treat?

Microdermabrasion is $215. Members receive discounted pricing. Series pricing available.

How much does microdermabrasion cost in Lubbock?

Yes—mechanical exfoliation doesn't introduce chemicals to the bloodstream. One of the few exfoliating treatments we can do throughout pregnancy. Tell us at booking and we'll skip retinoid-containing serums in the post-treatment products.

Is microdermabrasion safe during pregnancy?

Usually not—the mechanical action and suction can flare inflammation. We'd recommend gentler alternatives like enzymatic exfoliation or Glo2. We'll assess at consultation. Patients with mild sensitivity may tolerate it; severe rosacea or active flares are reasons to choose something else.

Can I do microdermabrasion if I have rosacea or sensitive skin?

Minimal. Mild redness for 1–3 hours. Skin may feel tight for the first day. Use heavy moisturizer and SPF for 48 hours. Avoid sun exposure (sensitivity is heightened). Skip retinoids and active acids for 3–5 days.

What's the recovery from microdermabrasion?

Book online or call (806) 701-5840. We typically recommend pairing it with a facial for full results. Available within a week.
