ResurFX Laser in Lubbock, TX
ResurFX is a 1565 nm non-ablative fractional laser on the Lumenis Stellar M22. It heats thousands of narrow columns deep in the skin while leaving the surface intact, so the skin rebuilds collagen without the open wound of an ablative laser. We use it on the face, neck and chest, and on scars and stretch marks.
How long ResurFX takes
Arrive 30 to 45 minutes before your appointment time so numbing cream has time to work before your provider starts. ResurFX is done as a series rather than a single visit: most plans are three or more sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, and your provider sets the number at consultation based on the area and what you want changed.
What kind of treatment ResurFX is
An in-office laser treatment on the Lumenis Stellar M22 using the ResurFX module, a 1565 nm non-ablative fractional fiber laser. Numbing cream is applied before treatment, and the handpiece cools the skin throughout. Nothing is cut and the skin surface is not removed. Performed by our nurse practitioner, registered nurse and laser-trained medical estheticians under medical director Dr. Arledge, a plastic surgeon.
Where we treat with ResurFX
Face, neck and chest for texture and fine lines. On the body we treat surgical scars and stretch marks, most often on the abdomen, hips and thighs. Which areas we treat, and in what order, is settled with your provider before the first appointment.
What ResurFX treats
Rough or uneven texture, fine lines and early wrinkles, mild to moderate acne scarring, crepey skin on the neck and chest, surgical scars, and stretch marks. It is a collagen treatment, so brown spots and redness on their own are better handled by an IPL photo facial. Deep, pitted acne scars and melasma need a different plan. Candidacy is confirmed at consultation.

Our ResurFX Treatments
A fractional laser that works under the surface and leaves the surface alone
What is ResurFX?
Most resurfacing lasers work by removing skin. An ablative laser like CO2 vaporizes the top layer in the areas it treats, and the skin heals by growing a new one. That works, and it costs you a week or more of open, healing skin.
ResurFX takes the other route. It is a 1565 nm fiber laser that Lumenis builds into the Stellar M22 platform, and it is non-ablative: it heats tissue without removing it. It is also fractional. Instead of treating the whole surface, it places thousands of narrow columns of heat into the dermis with untouched skin between them. That untouched skin is what lets you heal in days. The heated columns are what prompt the skin to lay down new collagen, and that new collagen is where the change in texture comes from.
Two features of the device matter to you as a patient. Its CoolScan scanner places each spot out of sequence rather than in a line, which Lumenis designed to keep heat from building up in one place. And the handpiece cools the skin continuously while it works. The FDA clearance for the M22 platform covers non-ablative treatment of facial wrinkles and fractional skin resurfacing. We already run the Lumenis PiQo4 here; ResurFX is the same manufacturer, aimed at texture rather than pigment.
What to expect from ResurFX
Redness and some swelling are expected, and they are the main thing to plan around. For most people they last two to three days, a little like a sunburn. Stronger settings can mean a longer recovery, and your provider will tell you which to expect for your plan before you book.
The result does not show up on day one. Collagen takes months to rebuild, so texture keeps improving after each session and for months after the last one. In a 2019 multicenter study published in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, 30 patients had three same-day IPL and ResurFX sessions four to six weeks apart. More than 90% showed improved or much improved overall appearance across the follow-up period, and combining the two did not lengthen downtime.
Stretch marks move slowly but measurably. In a prospective study in the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, 16 patients with white stretch marks had three 1565 nm sessions four weeks apart, and the depth of the marks dropped by 31.7% at six months. That is a real change, and it is also why we describe stretch marks as softened rather than removed.

Why clients book ResurFX at our Lubbock med spa
NO OPEN WOUND
The skin surface stays intact, so recovery is a few days of redness rather than weeks of healing.
FACE, NECK, CHEST AND BODY
One laser treats facial texture and fine lines, crepey neck and chest skin, and scars and stretch marks on the body.
BUILT TO SPREAD THE HEAT
The CoolScan scanner places each spot out of sequence and the handpiece cools the skin throughout the treatment.
PAIRS WITH IPL
Book ResurFX with IPL in the same visit to work on texture, brown spots and redness at once.
RESULTS THAT KEEP BUILDING
New collagen keeps forming for months after each session, so texture keeps improving after your series ends.
Numbing, one pass with a cooled handpiece, and a sunburn feeling after
Inside a ResurFX appointment
Come in 30 to 45 minutes early. Your provider cleans the skin and applies numbing cream, and that early arrival is the time it needs to take effect. While you wait, your provider confirms the areas and settings with you.
Once you are numb, the cream comes off and you put on protective eyewear. The ResurFX handpiece rests against the skin and the scanner lays down a pattern of spots, section by section. Lumenis designed it to do its work in a single pass over each area. Most people describe a warm, prickly heat through the numbing. The handpiece cools the skin the whole time, which takes the edge off.
If you are pairing ResurFX with IPL, the IPL comes first in the same visit. Afterward the skin is red and warm, like a fresh sunburn, and you go home with aftercare instructions and sunscreen on.
Who should wait, what the risks are, and how to protect the result
Before you book ResurFX
Lumenis contraindicates ResurFX for anyone with an active infection in the treatment area, whether viral, fungal or bacterial. An active cold sore counts. If you get cold sores, tell us at consultation. Bring a full list of medications, including any acne medication, and tell us if you are pregnant or nursing.
Side effects Lumenis lists for ResurFX are redness, swelling, scarring and change of pigmentation. Redness and swelling are expected and short-lived. The others are uncommon and are why settings are matched to your skin rather than pushed.
Melasma deserves its own note. It is heat-sensitive and can darken after heat-based treatment, so ResurFX is not where we start for it. Our melasma and pigmentation page covers the gentler approach.
Sunscreen every day is part of the treatment, not an extra. Read the full ResurFX aftercare guide before your first session. VIP members save 10% on every session.

FAQ
Your questions, answered
We’ve answered some of the most common questions below to help make your experience simple, transparent, and stress-free.
ResurFX is a 1565 nm non-ablative fractional laser that Lumenis builds into the Stellar M22 platform. It heats narrow columns of tissue in the dermis while leaving the skin surface intact, which prompts the skin to rebuild collagen. We use it for texture, fine lines, mild acne scarring, scars and stretch marks.
What is ResurFX?
An ablative laser removes the top layer of skin in the areas it treats, which is why recovery runs a week or more. ResurFX heats tissue without removing it, so recovery is usually two to three days of redness and swelling. Each session does less, so ResurFX is done as a series.
What is the difference between ResurFX and an ablative laser like CO2?
We apply numbing cream before every ResurFX treatment, so please arrive 30 to 45 minutes early for it to take effect. Most people feel a warm, prickly heat through the numbing. The handpiece also cools the skin continuously while it works.
Does ResurFX hurt?
Expect redness and some swelling, like a sunburn, for about two to three days. Stronger settings can mean a longer recovery, and your provider will tell you what to expect for your plan. The skin surface is not removed, so there is no open wound to care for.
How much downtime is there after ResurFX?
Most plans are three or more sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Your provider sets the number at consultation based on the area and what you want to change. Scars and stretch marks generally need more sessions than fine lines.
How many ResurFX sessions will I need?
Results build gradually because collagen takes months to rebuild. Texture keeps improving after each session and for months after your last one. In a 2019 multicenter study of three same-day IPL and ResurFX sessions, more than 90% of patients showed improved or much improved overall appearance across the follow-up period.
When will I see results from ResurFX?
Yes, for mild to moderate acne scarring and uneven texture. For deep, pitted acne scars, published comparisons favor ablative lasers, and at The Spa we usually recommend RF microneedling instead. Your provider will tell you which fits your scars.
Can ResurFX treat acne scars?
It can soften them. In a prospective study, 16 patients with white stretch marks had three 1565 nm sessions four weeks apart, and the depth of the marks dropped by 31.7% at six months. Expect softer, flatter marks over a series rather than marks that disappear.
Can ResurFX treat stretch marks?
Yes. We offer IPL and ResurFX in the same visit. IPL goes first to treat brown spots and redness, then ResurFX treats texture. A 2019 multicenter study of this same-day combination found it did not lengthen downtime compared with either treatment alone.
Can I combine ResurFX with IPL?
Lumenis contraindicates ResurFX for anyone with an active infection in the treatment area, whether viral, fungal or bacterial, including an active cold sore. It is also not where we start for melasma, which is heat-sensitive. Tell us about your medications, a history of cold sores, and pregnancy or nursing at consultation.
Who should not get ResurFX?
Pricing is confirmed at your consultation, because it depends on the area, the number of sessions and whether you pair it with IPL. VIP members save 10% on every session.
How much does ResurFX cost at The Spa by Sheena?
ResurFX is performed by our nurse practitioner, registered nurse and laser-trained medical estheticians, under the medical direction of Dr. Arledge, a plastic surgeon. The Spa has been open in Lubbock since 2016.
