What is PRP hair restoration?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) hair restoration uses your own blood to support thinning hair. A provider draws a small sample, concentrates the platelets from it, and injects that concentrate into your scalp. At The Spa by Sheena, PRP hair restoration is $675 per session, performed by our nurse practitioner Becca (MSN, FNP-C) or our RN Angie, under the oversight of our medical director, Dr. Arledge, a plastic surgeon. We have been doing injectable and regenerative work in Lubbock since 2016. One honest note up front: PRP for hair loss is not an FDA-approved drug or treatment. What to expect from PRP hair restoration
Your first visit is a consultation. Becca or Angie reviews your health history, the medications you take, and what is going on with your hair before anyone recommends a plan. PRP is not right for everyone. It is generally not done if you have an active scalp infection, a low platelet count or a bleeding disorder, chronic liver disease, or if you take blood-thinning medication. It is not used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Tell your provider your full history and every medication you are on.
On treatment day, expect minimal downtime. Your scalp may feel tender and look a little pink where the injections went in, and most people head back to their normal day afterward.
Be patient with results. Any change is gradual. Most people do not notice a difference for a few months, and fuller results, when they come, build over roughly a year. PRP works with follicles that are still alive, so it tends to help earlier thinning more than areas that have gone fully bald, and it cannot bring back a follicle that is already gone. It is not a cure. We cannot promise regrowth, and no honest provider will. If your hair loss might be tied to a hormone shift, your provider may also talk with you about hormone replacement therapy as part of the bigger picture.

Your platelets carry growth factors, the signaling proteins your body uses to heal. The idea behind PRP is to concentrate those growth factors and deliver them straight to the hair follicles, where they are thought to improve blood supply to the follicle and encourage thicker, healthier growth. It is the same regenerative principle behind our other PRP services, applied to the scalp.
Here is how a session works. A provider draws a small amount of your blood, the way a routine lab draw feels. That blood goes into a centrifuge, an FDA-cleared device that spins it fast enough to separate the platelet-rich layer from the rest. Be clear on what that clearance means: the FDA clears the centrifuge, but it has not approved PRP itself as a hair-loss treatment, so this use is considered off-label. Your provider then injects the concentrated plasma across the thinning areas of your scalp. The whole visit takes well under an hour.
Most protocols start with three sessions about a month apart, followed by maintenance treatments every few months. That schedule is not arbitrary, but it also is not standardized. In studies of male- and female-pattern (androgenetic) hair loss, PRP has been linked to modest gains in hair density, but the studies are small and prepare and dose the plasma differently. That variability is a real reason results differ from one study, and one person, to the next. Your provider will set a plan based on your hair and your goals at consultation.

PRP is not only for the scalp, and hair restoration is not the only way we use it. The same platelet concentrate can be used on the face. Injected the way a filler is, PRP filler is priced at $700. Same starting material, different goals, different price points.
For hair specifically, PRP is one tool, not the whole toolbox. Some people do best combining it with other hair-loss treatments a provider may recommend, which is exactly the kind of thing a consultation sorts out. Stopping maintenance typically results in gradual return of thinning—PRP doesn't permanently change the underlying genetic pattern, it stimulates the follicles while you're actively treating.
