Waxing

Warm-wax hair removal from lip to full leg, $15 to $145 by area. Hair needs about a quarter inch of growth. Waxing does not permanently reduce hair.

How long it takes

A wax at The Spa by Sheena takes 15 minutes for a lip or brow and up to 60 minutes for a full leg. Most people settle into a wax every three to five weeks.

Type of treatment

Esthetic hair removal performed by our estheticians, Brayden Mitchell, Victoria Henry and Posey Pence. Founded by Sheena Klos, CIDESCO Master Esthetician.

Where we wax

Lip, ear, chin, nose, under-arm, bikini, full face, half and full arms, Brazilian, half and full legs, stomach, and back.

What it's for

For anyone wanting hair gone at the root for a few weeks. Not for skin on isotretinoin, or for an area that is sunburned, infected, or recently peeled or lasered.

How med spa waxing differs from a wax-chain visit

Waxing at The Spa by Sheena is different from a wax-only chain visit. Same hair removal, different experience. Your aesthetician works in a private treatment room (not a curtain-divided station), uses hard wax on the sensitive areas chains often won't (genuine hard wax, not low-budget alternatives), and treats the skin before and after — exfoliating prep, calming serum, anti-redness finish. Most clients who switch to us from a chain say the difference is obvious by the second appointment.

Pricing is per area. Lip wax runs $15. Nose or chin runs $18. Underarms $40. Bikini or full face $55. Half arms $65. Brazilian, half legs, or stomach $85. Full arms $95. Back $115. Full legs $145. Combo bookings get scheduled into one extended appointment — say so at booking.

First-time Brazilian clients should know that the first session is more intense than maintenance sessions — every follicle is in active growth at the first visit, so sessions 2 and 3 are noticeably easier. Hair must be at least ¼ inch long for the wax to grip. Most clients who maintain waxing eventually graduate to laser hair removal — six to eight LHR sessions delivers permanent reduction, ending the every-4-week wax cycle for good.

For facial hair specifically — peach fuzz, fine dark hair on the upper lip — dermaplaning is a gentler alternative that removes the surface hair without the pull-and-redness of waxing. Rebook waxing every 4 to 6 weeks for ongoing maintenance.

The 15 to 60 minutes inside your waxing visit

Each appointment runs 15 to 60 minutes depending on the area. The sensation is brief discomfort at each pull, followed by quick relief. Sensitive areas (Brazilian, bikini) feel more intense; less sensitive areas (legs, arms) are very tolerable.

Mild redness and slight swelling for an hour or two post-wax is normal. Some pin-point bumps may appear; these resolve within a day.

Skip hot baths, hot tubs, and saunas for 24 hours. Skip exercise (especially sweat-inducing) for 24 hours. Exfoliate gently starting 2 to 3 days post-wax to prevent ingrown hairs. Use a mild moisturizer.

What to look forward to during your waxing visit

Waxing pulls hair out at the root, so skin stays smooth for weeks instead of the day or two you get from shaving. At The Spa by Sheena, our estheticians (Brayden Mitchell, Victoria Henry, and Posey Pence) wax faces and bodies for men and women, using warm wax and a clean strip-and-pull technique that clears a whole area in one pass. Sheena Klos, our founder and a CIDESCO Master Esthetician, has run the spa since 2016, and brow and lip waxing has been on the menu the whole time.

We wax most areas you would want waxed. Pricing is per session and depends on the area:

  • Lip — $15
  • Ear — $15
  • Chin — $18
  • Nose — $18
  • Under-arm — $40
  • Bikini — $55
  • Full face — $55
  • Half arms — $65
  • Brazilian — $85
  • Half legs — $85
  • Stomach — $85
  • Full arms — $95
  • Back — $115
  • Full leg — $145

Brow shaping is one of our most-booked waxes. If you want your lashes and brows handled at the same visit, see lash and brow services. For hair to come out cleanly, it needs to be about a quarter of an inch long, roughly the length of a grain of rice. That is usually two to three weeks of growth after your last shave. If it is much longer than half an inch, your esthetician may trim it first so the wax grips without tugging. Waxing pairs well with a facial on the same day, and if it is fine facial "peach fuzz" you are after rather than coarse hair, dermaplaning is the gentler option.

Avoid heat and friction for 24 hours after

Before your first waxing appointment

A little prep makes the appointment easier. Come with clean, dry skin and skip heavy lotion or oil on the area that day. Hair grows in cycles, and not every follicle is active at once, so a few new hairs will surface on their own schedule over the following weeks. That is normal, and it is why most people settle into a wax every three to five weeks.

One thing worth planning around is retinoids. Prescription tretinoin and over-the-counter retinol thin the top layer of skin, which raises the chance that waxing lifts that skin along with the hair. Stop using retinoids on the area for several days before you wax; about a week is the common advice. Isotretinoin (Accutane) is a firmer rule. Dermatologists advise no waxing while you are taking it and for six months after your last dose, because the skin is fragile enough that waxing can tear it and leave a scar. We will also reschedule if the area has a sunburn, an active infection or breakout, or a recent chemical peel or laser treatment. If any of that applies, tell us when you book and we will work out the timing.

Afterward, skin can look pink and feel tender for a day. Skip direct sun, tanning, hot tubs, and saunas for about 24 hours, and start gently exfoliating a few days later to keep ingrown hairs down. Ingrowns and small bumps do happen sometimes, more often on coarse or curly hair, when a new hair curls back into the follicle instead of growing straight out.

One honest note: waxing does not permanently reduce hair. It clears what is there and buys you a few smooth weeks, but the follicle keeps working and the hair grows back. If you want to stop shaving and waxing for good, that is a different treatment. Laser hair removal is FDA-cleared for permanent hair reduction, which means fewer and finer hairs over a series of sessions. Electrolysis is the only method the FDA recognizes for permanent hair removal, treating one follicle at a time. Not sure which fits you? A short consult sorts it out. FAQ

Your questions,  answered

We’ve answered some of the most common questions below to help make your experience simple, transparent, and stress-free.

Face: upper lip, chin, sides, full face, brow. Body: underarms, half arm, full arm, half leg, full leg, bikini line, Brazilian, back, chest. We use professional hard wax for sensitive areas and strip wax for larger body areas.

What waxing services do you offer?

First-time waxing is more uncomfortable than subsequent sessions because the hair is at its thickest and follicles are most resistant. Regular waxers experience progressively less discomfort over months—the hair grows back finer. Sensitive areas (Brazilian, underarms) are more painful than face. We use techniques to minimize discomfort.

Does waxing hurt?

Every 4–6 weeks. Hair needs to be at least ¼ inch (about 2 weeks of growth) to wax effectively. Maintaining a regular schedule means less hair to remove each time and less discomfort. Skipping months means longer hair and a more uncomfortable session.

How often should I get waxed?

Waxing ranges $15–$145 depending on the area. Pricing for each service is available at booking. Members receive discounted pricing.

How much does waxing cost in Lubbock?

We strongly recommend against shaving between waxes. Shaving cuts hair at the surface and the regrowth is blunt—when you wax, the wax needs to grab the actual hair, not stubble. Shaving also restarts the cycle of coarse regrowth. Stick with waxing consistently for finer regrowth and better long-term results.

Can I shave between waxing appointments?

Typically 3–4 weeks of smoothness before noticeable regrowth. Faster on the face, slower on legs. Consistent waxing over months can extend results as hair regrowth becomes finer and less dense.

How long does waxing last?

Yes—waxing is safe throughout pregnancy. Skin can be more sensitive during pregnancy, so the same wax may feel more uncomfortable than pre-pregnancy. Communicate with your aesthetician about sensitivity levels.

Can I wax during pregnancy?

Some patients experience temporary redness or small bumps for 12–24 hours after waxing—normal inflammation that resolves. True breakouts post-wax are uncommon. We provide post-wax care recommendations (exfoliation, moisturizer) to minimize bumps and ingrown hairs.

Will waxing make my skin break out?

Yes—wear a fresh tampon to the appointment. Skin is more sensitive during your cycle, so the wax may feel more uncomfortable than usual. Many waxers prefer to schedule mid-cycle for maximum comfort.

Can I get a Brazilian wax during my period?

Book online or call (806) 701-5840. First-time waxers: we recommend an in-person consult first if you have skin sensitivities. Most appointments available within a week.
