DURATION
A Dysport appointment at The Spa by Sheena lasts 15 to 20 minutes, including a brief consultation with your injector and the injections themselves.
PROCEDURE TYPE
Dysport is classified as a cosmetic procedure, used electively to soften forehead and frown lines rather than to treat a medical condition.
BODY AREA
Dysport at The Spa by Sheena is injected on the face, most commonly into the glabellar lines (the '11s' between the brows), forehead, crow's feet, and bunny lines.
INDICATION
Dysport at The Spa by Sheena treats dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated facial expression, including frown lines, forehead lines, and crow's feet.
THE PROTOCOL
What is Dysport?
Dysport is abobotulinumtoxinA, an FDA-approved neurotoxin used to soften wrinkles caused by facial expression. Like Botox, it blocks the nerve signal that tells targeted facial muscles to contract. The wrinkles those muscles create — frown lines, forehead furrows, crow's feet — soften as movement quiets.
The chemistry is slightly different from Botox. Dysport diffuses a little farther from each injection point, which can make it well-suited to broader surface areas like the forehead.
What to expect from your Dysport appointment
A neurotoxin session takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The injector reviews the areas you want addressed, then places small amounts of product into the targeted muscles with a fine needle. Most patients describe it as a quick pinch at each injection point.
After your appointment, you may notice small temporary bumps at each injection site. These resolve quickly. Some patients bruise; if you do, expect it to clear within 7 to 10 days.
Keep your head upright and avoid lying flat for the first few hours. Skip makeup for 3 hours, sweating and exercise for 12 hours, and flying for 48 hours. Onset varies by product (2 to 5 days for visible softening), with full results at about 2 weeks. Treated areas typically hold for 3 to 4 months for Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin, and about 6 months for Daxxify.

Benefits of Botox
FASTER ONSET
Visible softening as early as 2 to 4 days—quicker than Botox for patients who want fast results.
FOREHEAD-FRIENDLY
Spreads more naturally across the forehead for smoother coverage of broad areas.
WRINKLE SOFTENING
Reduces dynamic wrinkles around the eyes, forehead, and brow line.
FDA-APPROVED
Same safety profile and effectiveness as Botox with slightly different characteristics.
TRUSTED OPTION
Excellent alternative for patients who prefer Dysport's spread or onset timing.
THE APPOINTMENT
Inside a Dysport appointment
A session runs about 15 to 20 minutes. Your injector reviews the areas you want addressed, marks the muscles to be treated, and places small amounts of product with a fine needle. Most patients describe it as a quick pinch.
Onset tends to be slightly faster than Botox. Many patients notice softening in 2 to 3 days, with full results developing over about 14 days. Treated areas typically hold for 3 to 4 months.
GOOD TO KNOW
How Dysport compares to Botox, Daxxify, and Xeomin
Dysport, Botox, Daxxify, and Xeomin share the same core mechanism. Differences come down to onset, duration, spread pattern, and how each one interacts with the muscles being treated. Patients who switch between products often find one becomes their preference based on how the result feels. Your injector can help you decide which suits your goals during consultation.
FAQ
Your questions, answered
We’ve answered some of the most common questions below to help make your experience simple, transparent, and stress-free.
Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) is an FDA-approved neurotoxin similar to Botox. Two main differences: Dysport spreads slightly more from the injection point (advantageous for broader areas like forehead, can be a drawback if more precise placement is needed) and has faster onset—patients often see effects starting at 2–4 days vs. 4–7 for Botox. Equivalent effectiveness with slightly different characteristics.
What is Dysport and how is it different from Botox?
Average 3–4 months, similar to Botox. Individual response varies based on metabolism, dose, and treatment area. Most patients on consistent treatment see 3–4 month intervals between treatments.
How long does Dysport last?
Dysport units are smaller than Botox units—roughly 2.5 Dysport units equal 1 Botox unit. Forehead lines typically use 30–60 Dysport units; frown lines 50–75; crow's feet 30–60 per side. Your provider calculates units at consultation. Per-treatment cost is roughly equivalent to Botox when you account for unit conversion.
How many units of Dysport do I need?
For most patients, no meaningful difference in effectiveness—just slight differences in onset and spread. Dysport's wider spread makes it preferred by some providers for the forehead. Botox's more precise spread is preferred for areas needing exact placement. We use both based on what each patient needs.
Does Dysport work better than Botox?
Same as Botox—quick pinches with an ultra-fine needle. Brief discomfort during the injection itself. Most patients describe it as a slight sting per site. We can apply topical numbing for sensitive patients.
Does Dysport hurt?
Dysport is $5 per unit at The Spa by Sheena. Dysport units are smaller than Botox units—roughly 2.5 Dysport units equal 1 Botox unit. So while per-unit pricing is lower than Botox ($14/unit), more units are needed for equivalent effect. Per-treatment cost ends up similar. Members receive discounted per-unit pricing.
What does Dysport cost in Lubbock?
No real downtime. Minor redness at injection sites for a few hours. Possible small bruise. Stay upright for 4 hours, avoid strenuous exercise/heat for 24 hours. Effects begin at 2–4 days, peak at 14 days.
What's the recovery from Dysport?
Yes—and many patients try both to see which they prefer. They're not cross-reactive in any negative way. Some patients prefer Dysport's slightly broader spread; others prefer Botox's more precise placement. There's no harm in switching.
Can I switch from Botox to Dysport (or vice versa)?
Rare—similar resistance profile to Botox. Both contain accessory proteins that theoretically could trigger antibody response over years of frequent dosing. Xeomin is the alternative for patients who develop resistance. Vast majority of patients don't experience this issue.
Will Dysport stop working over time?
First-time patients: complimentary consultation to discuss whether Dysport or another neurotoxin best fits your goals. Returning patients: book the treatment directly. Call (806) 701-5840 or book online.
