What is Daxxify?

Daxxify is the newest FDA-approved wrinkle relaxer on the market — approved in 2022 by a company called Revance — and it's the first and only wrinkle relaxer built around a peptide.

Peptides are everywhere right now — in your skincare, your supplements, even the GLP-1 medications transforming the weight loss market. Daxxify uses one as the delivery system, and that peptide is what makes it last longer than Botox. The active mechanism is the same as Botox: your injector places small doses in the muscles that create your expression lines, the muscles relax, and the lines soften. The peptide is what holds the formula stable in your muscle for longer — 6 months on average, with many clients getting 7 to 9 months.

The trade-off: Daxxify costs more per visit because you need more units. But because you only come in twice a year instead of four times, most clients spend a similar total over 12 months — and cut their appointment count in half.

One more perk clients love: Daxxify kicks in fast. Most see softening in 1 to 2 days — even faster than Dysport (2 to 3 days) and much faster than Botox (3 to 5 days). In Revance's clinical trials, most patients saw a marked improvement in their frown lines by week 4.

What to expect from your Daxxify appointment

Daxxify starts working faster than any other wrinkle relaxer — most clients see softening in 1 to 2 days, with the full effect by day 14. That's quicker than Botox (3 to 5 days) and even faster than Dysport (2 to 3 days).

After your appointment, keep it easy for 24 hours: stay upright for 4 hours, no makeup for 3 hours, no exercise or sweat for 12 hours, no flights for 48 hours. Little bumps at the injection sites are normal and gone within the hour. If you bruise, it clears in a week or so.

The real payoff comes over the next 6 months. Where Botox and Dysport start to wear off around month 3, Daxxify holds strong through month 5 or 6 (and often longer). Most clients rebook twice a year — once in the spring, once in the fall — and forget about their wrinkle relaxer in between.

Inside a Daxxify appointment

Every Daxxify visit starts with a short consultation. Your injector watches how your face moves, goes over your health history and the medications you take, and maps where each unit goes. Daxxify is placed with a very fine needle in a series of small injections into the muscles between your brows, and the appointment usually runs about 15 minutes. Your injector is Becca (MSN, FNP-C) or Angie (RN), both working under our medical director Dr. Arledge, a plastic surgeon. The Spa has been open in Lubbock since 2016.

You will not see a change the day you leave. Most people notice movement starting to ease within a few days, and the fuller effect settles over the next week or two, which is about the same onset as the other neurotoxins we carry. In the first few days you may see small bumps, redness, or a little bruising where the needle went in, and some people get a mild headache that passes in a day or two. A less common effect is a temporary droop of the eyelid or brow, called ptosis, which happens when a little product settles into a nearby muscle. It resolves on its own as the Daxxify wears off. We cannot promise a specific outcome, and results do vary from one person to the next.

Daxxify is not right for everyone. It should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and it is not recommended if you have a neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis, ALS, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome, since these raise the risk of muscle weakness. Tell your injector if you take an aminoglycoside antibiotic, like gentamicin, because it can amplify the effect. We do not accept or bill insurance, and cosmetic Daxxify is not covered by insurance anywhere. How Daxxify compares to Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin

Daxxify is one of the four neurotoxins we carry, and they all work the same way: they quiet the muscle so the line above it softens. What sets Daxxify apart is how long it tends to last. In its SAKURA clinical trials the median result held for about 6 months, longer than the roughly 3 to 4 months most people get from Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin. A median means half the people in the study kept their result longer than that and half saw it fade sooner, so 6 months is a reasonable expectation, not a guarantee. Some people get less. Your own timing is one of the things to talk through at your consultation.

At The Spa, Daxxify is $7 per unit. Botox and Xeomin are $14 per unit and Dysport is $5, but do not line those unit prices up side by side. Each product is dosed in a different number of units, so the price of a single unit tells you almost nothing about the cost of a full treatment. Daxxify is also built differently. It is stabilized with a proprietary peptide instead of the human serum albumin that most other neurotoxins use, which means it carries no human- or animal-derived components. That is a formulation difference, not a claim that it works better on your face.

The one thing no neurotoxin does is add volume. If your goal is fuller lips or restored cheeks rather than softer frown lines, that is the job of dermal fillers, a different product altogether. No real downtime. Same precautions as other neurotoxins: stay upright for 4 hours, avoid strenuous exercise and heat for 24 hours. Effects begin at 2–5 days, peak at 14 days.

What's the recovery from Daxxify?

Yes—patients commonly try Daxxify after consistent Botox use to see if the longer duration is worth the higher per-treatment cost. There's no negative interaction between products.

Can I switch to Daxxify if I currently use Botox?

Patients who want fewer appointments per year, patients who travel frequently and can't maintain quarterly schedules, patients with insurance/HSA constraints that benefit from less frequent dosing, and patients who specifically want longer duration. Not for patients who like the flexibility of more frequent dose adjustments.

Who should consider Daxxify?
