Fall Treatment Timing in Lubbock: What to Start Now, and What Can Wait

8 min read

If you want to be done shaving by next June, you're already running a little behind. Laser hair removal takes six or more sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Start in September and you finish in March at the earliest. Wait until spring to book and you'll spend another summer with a razor.

Almost everything we do here runs on a clock, and most of those clocks count backward from a date you actually care about. Nobody explains that at the front desk, so people book in April for results they wanted in May and leave disappointed. This is the calendar we wish everyone had.

Why Fall Is Laser Season in West Texas

September through March is the working window for most of our laser and peel work, for two reasons.

The first is sun. Lubbock gets some of the strongest sun in the country, and nearly every laser or peel asks you to stay out of it on both ends of the appointment. Four weeks off sun and self-tanner before a laser hair removal session. Seven to fourteen days of real caution after a chemical peel. Try holding that in July and you're fighting your own life.

The second is time. These treatments come in series, not single visits, and a series runs months. Cool weather gives you a long enough stretch to actually finish one.

Injectables and hormone work are the exception. More on those below.

The Treatments With Real Deadlines in Lubbock

Some services have timelines long enough that a few weeks of hesitation costs you a whole year.

Laser hair removal runs six or more sessions, four to six weeks apart, and pricing runs $75 for an upper lip to $375 for full legs, with a discount when you buy a series of six. The part people miss is the prep: no sun and no self-tanner for four weeks before every single session. Six sessions starting in September lands you finished sometime between March and June. Six sessions starting in April means you're still going when it's 100 degrees out and you're supposed to be staying out of the sun. Our diode laser works across the Fitzpatrick scale, including darker skin tones, so the limiting factor here is the calendar, not your complexion. If you're weighing this against electrolysis, that comparison is worth reading first.

Tattoo removal is the extreme case. Six to twelve sessions, spaced ten to twelve weeks apart or more, because your body needs that long to clear fragmented ink. Do the math and a full removal runs anywhere from fifteen months to three years. There's no version of this that fits in a season. Every month you wait is a month added to the end, and healing skin needs to stay out of the sun, so a September start beats a June one for reasons beyond impatience. We've written separately on what it costs and what it feels like.

Pigment Work Belongs in Cool Weather

Melasma and sun damage are the treatments most likely to backfire if you time them wrong, because the thing that provokes them is the thing you can't avoid in a Lubbock summer.

Melasma toning runs $400 a session, two to four sessions, about four weeks apart. Start in September and you're finished by December or January, well before the UV index climbs again. Melasma also responds to heat on its own, no sunburn required, which is another argument for doing this work when you're not standing over a grill.

Sun spots and general sun damage are a different problem with different tools. IPL photo facial runs three to four sessions four weeks apart, $250 to $650 depending on area, and it's a poor fit for darker skin tones. The PiQo4 laser facial runs $325 a session, three to five sessions, four to six weeks apart. Both want the same cool-weather window.

Whichever one you're a candidate for, none of it holds without daily sunscreen, which we've made the case for elsewhere.

Peel Season Runs October Through March

Chemical peels are the clearest example of a treatment that just doesn't work in a West Texas summer. Look at the downtime:

  • AHA glycolic, $90. Minimal downtime, slight flaking for two or three days. Repeatable every four weeks.

  • TCA, $215. Visible peeling for five to seven days.

  • Herbal Green, $275. Ground botanicals instead of acids, five to seven days of peeling.

  • ZO 3-Step, $375. Peeling starts day three or four and resolves by day seven.

Every one of them asks for strict sun avoidance for seven to fourteen days afterward, SPF 30 or higher daily, and no retinoids for a week to ten days. A series runs four to six weeks apart. That means a proper three-peel series occupies three to four months of calendar, all of it needing you out of direct sun.

October through March, that's easy. August, that's a fantasy. If your skin concern is acne rather than tone, peels sit inside a bigger plan we've laid out separately.

Collagen Takes Months in West Texas, So Count Backward

The collagen treatments are the ones people most often book too late, because the results don't arrive when the appointments end.

Microneedling runs three to six sessions, four to six weeks apart. SkinPen is $450 a session, PRP adds $250, RF Fractora runs $375 to $650 by area. You'll be red for a day or two and back to normal by day five. But best results land three to six months after you finish the series. Start now and you look your best in spring. There's a real difference between RF and traditional microneedling worth understanding before you pick.

Sculptra deserves a blunt warning. It's $850 a vial, two to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, and it doesn't add volume the way filler does. It tells your body to build collagen, which takes time. Subtle change at four to six weeks, full results eight to twelve weeks after the whole series wraps. Start Sculptra in September and you're looking at February or March before you see the finished result. If you were hoping to look different in Christmas photos, Sculptra is not that treatment, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you something. Results do hold up to two years, so it's worth starting anyway. Just start it for the right reason.

What Doesn't Care What Month It Is

Plenty of what we do has no season at all.

Neurotoxin is the obvious one. Botox, Dysport, Daxxify, and Xeomin all work in August the same as they work in January. Book two weeks ahead of an event and you're fine. Daxxify is worth a look if you're tired of the three-month cycle.

Dermal filler is the same story, and lips, cheeks, jawline, and under-eye all treat year-round.

Hormone therapy, GLP-1 weight management, NAD, and B12 shots run on your body's schedule, not the weather's. HRT pellets for women and compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide both start whenever you're ready.

Facials, dermaplaning, and Glo2 treatments are fine any month. Dermaplaning actually earns its keep in winter, when the dry air and wind here leave everyone flaking.

Working Backward From Your Date at The Spa by Sheena

Pick the date, then count back.

Next summer, hair-free. Book laser hair removal now. Six sessions at four to six weeks is six to nine months, and you can't do the sun-avoidance prep once it's hot.

December holidays. Neurotoxin two weeks out. A facial or dermaplaning the week before. A single AHA peel is fine at four weeks out. Anything with five to seven days of peeling should land in early November, not mid-December. Sculptra and microneedling won't be finished in time, so start them for spring instead.

A spring wedding. Start pigment work and peels now, finish by February, then let your skin settle. Microneedling started in September peaks right around April.

Tattoo gone by a specific date. Have this conversation at a consultation before you make plans. At ten to twelve weeks between sessions, the honest answer is often longer than you'd like.

What Booking Too Late Actually Costs

The arithmetic above is easy to nod along with and easy to ignore. So here's what the cost looks like in practice, using the three mistakes we watch happen every spring.

Someone books laser hair removal in April. The first two sessions go fine. By session three it's June, they've been at the lake, and treating recently sun-exposed skin raises the risk of burns and pigment changes, so we postpone. Session four slips to July for the same reason. What should have been six sessions in seven months becomes six sessions in fourteen, and they shave through two summers instead of one. The treatment worked. The calendar didn't.

Someone books a peel series in May. Every peel in the series except the lightest asks for five to seven days of visible peeling and then seven to fourteen days of strict sun avoidance. In Lubbock in June that means either hiding indoors or undoing the work. Most people quietly choose the third option, which is skipping the rest of the series.

Someone books Sculptra in November for a December event. Subtle change lands at four to six weeks, full results eight to twelve weeks after the whole series wraps. They see almost nothing by the party, decide it didn't work, and never come back for the sessions that would have delivered it in February. The product was fine. The expectation was set against the wrong date.

None of these are treatment failures. They're scheduling failures, and they cost the same thing a treatment failure costs: money spent, time gone, and a result that never arrived.

The version that works is unglamorous. Pick the date you care about, count backward using the numbers in this post, and book the first appointment far enough out that the sun-avoidance windows fall in months when avoiding the sun is realistic. In West Texas, that means starting now and finishing before May.

Common Questions About Treatment Timing in Lubbock

Can I really not do lasers in the summer?

You can, and plenty of people do. The problem is compliance, not the machine. Four weeks off sun before each hair removal session, or two weeks of careful avoidance after a peel, is a lot to ask of anyone in July in Lubbock. Treatments done on recently sun-exposed skin carry more risk of burns and pigment changes. We'd rather move you to October than treat you badly in June.

What if I've already been tanning?

Tell us. We'll push the appointment rather than treat freshly tanned skin. That applies to spray tans and tanning beds too, not just real sun.

I want to start everything at once. Can I?

Usually not all at once, but often in sequence. Some treatments stack fine and others need spacing so your skin isn't recovering from two things simultaneously. Bring your whole list to a consultation and we'll sequence it across the months you've got.

How far ahead should I book for an event?

Two weeks for neurotoxin. A week for a facial. Two to four weeks for filler, so any swelling settles. For anything in a series, count the full series plus the results lag, which for collagen work means months.

Does insurance cover any of this?

No. These are elective cosmetic and wellness services. VIP membership takes 10% off, and several treatments have series pricing that beats paying per session.
