Peach Fuzz, Dull Skin or Uneven Tone? From Microdermabrasion to Peels, Here's What Fits in Lubbock

When you think about exfoliating, your mind probably goes to scrubbing off dead skin. Microdermabrasion, dermaplaning, chemical peels, Green Peel Fresh Up and Glo2 all exfoliate, but each one does a different job. Here's what each one does and how to tell which one fits your skin.
Mechanical or Chemical: Two Ways to Exfoliate
Mechanical exfoliation uses a tool or scrub to physically remove dead skin cells. Chemical exfoliation uses acids, such as alpha and beta hydroxy acids, to dissolve them. On our menu, microdermabrasion and dermaplaning are mechanical and the AHA peel is chemical. Green Peel uses herbs instead of acids, and Glo2 builds exfoliation into a multi-step facial.
If you have a darker skin tone, stronger isn't always better. More aggressive exfoliation can actually trigger more pigmentation, which is one more reason we look at your skin before deciding what kind of exfoliation makes sense.
Microdermabrasion in Lubbock: For Dull, Rough Texture
If you're looking into microdermabrasion in Lubbock, it's built for surface-level buildup. It uses fine crystals to exfoliate the outermost layer of dead skin cells while light suction pulls the crystals and loosened cells away. It isn't painful. Most people describe a light scratching feeling with a little tug from the suction.
It's a good fit for dullness, rough texture or mild discoloration. Your skin may be a little red, swollen or sensitive for up to 24 hours, but most people go right back to their normal day. Results can build with regular treatments, and you'll want to avoid direct sun for at least seven days afterward.
This isn't the treatment we'd choose for pitted scars, deep wrinkles or melasma. Those need a different approach.
Dermaplaning: For Peach Fuzz and Makeup That Won't Sit Flat
Dermaplaning removes peach fuzz, or vellus hair, along with dead skin cells sitting on the surface, leaving smoother, fresher-looking skin. It feels like gentle scraping, but it isn't painful. Your esthetician keeps the skin pulled taut so the blade can glide smoothly and evenly.
If you wear makeup, this is where dermaplaning makes a noticeable difference. Makeup clings to peach fuzz and settles into dry, flaky patches, which is where that cakey look comes from. With that buildup gone, makeup sits more smoothly and skincare goes on over a smoother surface.
A common misconception is that dermaplaning makes hair grow back thicker. It doesn't. Our estheticians explain it a lot like a haircut. The hair itself doesn't change. The blade just takes off the naturally tapered tip, so the blunt end can feel a little different as it grows back.
AHA Peel: For Uneven Tone, Repeated Monthly
An AHA peel is chemical exfoliation. Instead of physically removing dead skin cells, we use a light glycolic peel to resurface the skin.
You may feel some warmth, tingling or mild stinging for a few minutes during the peel, and some pinkness afterward. Most clients look pretty normal again within 24 to 48 hours, although the skin can continue going through its healing process for several days after a light peel. Makeup is usually fine again the next day.
It can be repeated about once a month, so it works well for improving skin gradually instead of doing one aggressive peel. If active breakouts are the bigger concern, our Acne Peel uses salicylic acid and is chosen with acne-prone skin in mind.
AHAs can also make your skin more sensitive to the sun. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advises using sunscreen and limiting sun exposure while using AHAs and for a week afterward, which matters even more here in Lubbock.
Herbal Green Peel Fresh Up: The No-Peel Peel
Fresh Up is the gentlest of our Dr. Schrammek Herbal Green Peel treatments. It's a quick refresh for tired, dull skin, especially if you have an event coming up and don't want downtime. Unlike an acid peel, it uses herbs and massage rather than chemical exfoliants to stimulate and refresh the skin without visible peeling.
The three Green Peel options come down to how much change you want and how much downtime you can plan around. Fresh Up is the lightest. Energy is a step up, using the same herbs, and is usually done as a series. It still doesn't visibly peel. Classic is the only tier designed to visibly peel, for deeper work when you can plan around the downtime.
Glo2 Express and Lux: Exfoliation Inside a Hydrating Facial
With Glo2, exfoliation is only one part of the facial. The exfoliation step, which Glo2 calls Oxfoliation, gently clears away dead surface cells, then the treatment moves straight into hydration. That's what makes it different from treatments that exfoliate and stop there.
The Clarify pod is the option for breakout-prone skin, and the Smooth pod gives a finish closer to an AHA/BHA peel, still with no downtime. Glo2 Express takes 30 minutes. Glo2 Lux takes 60. You may leave a little pink, but you can go about your normal day. RF can also be added when it fits your goals.
How to Choose an Exfoliating Treatment in Lubbock
Start with what's actually bothering you.
Peach fuzz or makeup that won't sit smoothly: Dermaplaning
Rough, dull surface texture: Microdermabrasion
Uneven tone and something you can repeat regularly: AHA Peel
Tired-looking skin or an event coming up: Green Peel Fresh Up
Active breakouts: Acne Peel, or Glo2 with the Clarify pod
Deep scars, deeper wrinkles or melasma: None of these. They need a different plan, such as microneedling or melasma treatment.
Whichever you choose, don't go home and double down on strong exfoliants. Give your skin a chance to recover instead of stacking professional exfoliation with everything in your bathroom cabinet.
Common Questions About Exfoliating Treatments in Lubbock
How often should I get one of these treatments?
For dermaplaning and microdermabrasion in Lubbock, we usually recommend every 4 to 6 weeks, or every 4 weeks if you want more consistent results. Both are ongoing maintenance rather than a set number of sessions.
Which one is gentlest if my skin is sensitive?
Between our two mechanical options, our estheticians consider dermaplaning the gentler one, though clients rarely have issues with either. Sensitive skin isn't one-size-fits-all, though. Some sensitive skin does better with a mild chemical exfoliant, so we look at your skin before deciding.
Can I combine treatments?
Yes, in some cases. Dermaplaning can be done on its own or as part of our Dermaplane Facial. Pairing it with something stronger, like a chemical peel, is a case-by-case call we make with you based on your skin and what else you've been using.
There isn't one "best" exfoliating treatment for everyone. We'd rather help you choose the one that fits your skin than have you guess based on a name or a trend.
