RF Microneedling Aftercare

POST CARE GUIDE

RF Microneedling Aftercare

RF microneedling at The Spa is done on the Lumenis triLift 2.0 with the FibroBoost applicator, and the aftercare is the same for the face and the body. Expect the treated skin to look flushed and feel warm for a few hours, with no bleeding and no peeling. What it asks of you is a few days of gentle care: no retinoids or acids, no heavy sweating, no scrubs, and sunscreen every morning. This guide covers the first day, the days after, and when to book your next session.

Your RF microneedling recovery at a glance

What happens, and when

Here is the path from treatment day to final result.

First Few Hours

Flushing and warmth

Expect the treated skin to look flushed and feel warm, a little like a mild sunburn, for a few hours after RF microneedling. There is no bleeding. Cool compresses help if it feels hot. Keep the first day simple: a gentle cleanser, a plain moisturizer, and sunscreen in the morning.

First Few Days

Gentle care, no actives

For a few days, leave retinoids, AHAs, BHAs and vitamin C out of your routine, skip the gym, saunas, hot yoga and swimming, and keep scrubs and exfoliating body washes off the treated area. Leave makeup off the face for the first 24 hours, then keep it light until the flushing has fully settled.

Weeks to Months

Collagen builds

New collagen forms gradually, so smoother texture shows over the weeks that follow and keeps building for months after your last session. Lumenis spaces RF microneedling sessions two weeks apart, three in a course, with a maintenance session three to six months later.

Gentle care for a few days, face or body

How to Care for Your Skin After RF Microneedling

Leave the treated skin alone

Do not scrub, exfoliate, or work at the treated area while it settles. That means no facial brushes, no exfoliating body washes or loofahs, no microcurrent devices, no aggressive cleansing and no picking at anything you notice on the surface. The skin is repairing micro-channels, and interfering with that is how a short recovery turns into a mark that outlasts it by months.

Skip sweat and heat for a few days

Skip the gym, saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga and swimming for a few days after RF microneedling. Sweat and standing water both introduce bacteria into channels that have not closed yet.

Hyaluronic acid + bland moisturizer (AM and PM)

From the day after your treatment, keep the barrier hydrated morning and night. Layer a hyaluronic acid serum onto damp skin, then seal it with a plain, fragrance-free moisturizer, with nothing containing acids, retinol or added actives. Hydrated skin rebuilds its surface faster and keeps the treated area from feeling tight. Reapply any time it feels dry.

Daily SPF 30+ (mandatory)

Once the surface has closed, daily broad-spectrum sunscreen stops being optional. We recommend SkinBetter Science sunbetter Tone Smart SPF 75 each morning, reapplied every two hours whenever you are outdoors. A mineral formula with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide is gentlest on freshly treated skin. Incidental sun through car and office windows still drives pigment, so keep the habit well past the first week.

Keep out of direct sun

Keep the treated skin out of direct sun for the first few days. Freshly treated skin colors easily, and sun in this window is the most common cause of lingering brown patches. Seek shade, wear a wide-brimmed hat, and keep treated body areas covered when you are outdoors. Avoid tanning beds entirely.

First 24 hours (gentle only)

For the first 24 hours after RF microneedling, treat the skin as though it is healing, because it is. Cleanse once or twice with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser and lukewarm water, then pat dry with a clean towel rather than rubbing. Leave off makeup, retinoids, acids, vitamin C and any scrub. If the skin feels warm or tight, a cool compress over clean fingertips is fine.

A few hours of flushing and warmth

What's Normal: RF Microneedling Downtime

Normal, temporary, and part of the process.

No bleeding, no peeling

The FibroBoost applicator uses electrodes 0.15 mm across, finer than a standard microneedling needle, so the channels it opens are very small. There is no bleeding during or after the treatment, and the skin does not peel or shed the way it does after a resurfacing laser or a deeper microneedling pass.

What is not normal

Redness or swelling that gets worse after the first day, rather than settling, is not part of normal recovery. Neither is blistering, open skin, or pain that climbs after the first few hours. Call us at (806) 701-5840 if you see any of these.

Face and body recover the same way

The face and the body follow the same aftercare. Body sessions cover a larger area and use a deeper tip, so the flushed area is bigger, but the timeline and the care are the same: a few hours of warmth, then a few days of gentle care and sun protection.

A tight feeling (first evening)

That evening the treated skin may feel tight or a little dry, the way skin feels after a long day outdoors. A plain, fragrance-free moisturizer settles it. This is a normal part of the first day and does not need a call.

Flushing and warmth (a few hours)

After RF microneedling, the treated skin looks flushed and feels warm, much like a mild sunburn, and that settles over a few hours rather than days. Most people are comfortable the same evening. Cool compresses help if it feels hot. Plan the treatment for a day when looking a little pink for the afternoon does not matter.

Products, sun and activities to avoid for a few days

What to Avoid After RF Microneedling

Sun Exposure

Keep the treated skin out of direct sun for the first few days and wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning. Freshly treated skin colors easily, and sun in this window is the most common cause of lingering brown patches.

Sweating & Heat

Skip the gym, saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga and swimming for a few days. Sweat and standing water both introduce bacteria into channels that have not closed yet.

Scrubbing & Exfoliating

Do not scrub, exfoliate or use brushes, loofahs, microcurrent devices or firm massage on the treated area while it settles. Cleanse gently with your fingertips and pat dry rather than rubbing.

Active Skincare

No retinoids, AHAs, BHAs or vitamin C for a few days, then reintroduce them one at a time.

restriction-icon-gold.png

Picking

Do not pick or scratch at anything you notice on the treated skin while it settles. Picking is how a short recovery turns into a scar or a dark mark.

Makeup

Leave makeup off the face for the first 24 hours, then keep it light until the flushing has fully settled.

When to Call The Spa After RF Microneedling

Contact The Spa immediately if you experience:

After RF microneedling, skin that looks flushed and feels warm for a few hours is expected, and so is a tight, freshly treated feeling that evening. None of that needs a call. Reach out promptly if you notice any of the following:

  • Redness or swelling that worsens after the first day instead of steadily settling.
  • Signs of infection, such as pus or yellow drainage, spreading warmth, red streaking, or a fever.
  • Pain that climbs after the first few hours rather than fading, or pain out of proportion to what your provider described.
  • Blistering, a burn, or open areas anywhere in the treated area, face or body.
  • A change in skin color, such as dark or light patches that have not evened out as the treated skin settles.

During business hours, call us at (806) 701-5840. For severe symptoms outside our hours, go to the nearest urgent care or emergency room and let us know as soon as you are able. When in doubt, call. We would always rather hear from you.

FAQ

Your questions,  answered

We’ve answered some of the most common questions below to help make your experience simple, transparent, and stress-free.

Microneedling combined with radiofrequency energy. We use the FibroBoost applicator on the Lumenis triLift 2.0: electrodes 0.15 mm across open tiny channels in the skin with a pulse of radiofrequency, then deliver heat into the dermis. That heat prompts the skin to rebuild collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.

What is RF microneedling?

On the face: fine lines, rough or uneven texture, enlarged pores and acne scarring, often alongside early loss of firmness. The neck and chest can be added to a face session for crepey texture, fine lines and sun damage. For stretch marks and scars, see RF microneedling for stretch marks and scars.

What does RF microneedling treat?

Standard microneedling, like our SkinPen, uses needles alone to create micro-channels that prompt new collagen. RF microneedling adds radiofrequency heat delivered into the dermis, which adds a firming response on top of that. SkinPen suits texture and glow; RF microneedling is the step up when you want more from each session.

How is RF microneedling different from standard microneedling?

Lumenis's treatment protocol spaces RF microneedling sessions two weeks apart, three in a course, with a maintenance session three to six months after the last one. Your provider confirms the plan for your skin at consultation.

How many RF microneedling sessions will I need?

We apply numbing cream about 30 minutes before treatment, so most people find it very manageable. You will feel warmth from the radiofrequency. Lumenis designed the FibroBoost electrodes and pulse to keep discomfort down, and the treatment pass itself is short.

Does RF microneedling hurt?

Short. The treated skin looks flushed and feels warm for a few hours, a little like a mild sunburn. There is no bleeding and no peeling. Leave makeup off for 24 hours, skip retinoids and acids for a few days, and wear sunscreen every morning. Full instructions are in our RF microneedling aftercare guide.

What's the recovery from RF microneedling?

A full-face session is $650. Adding the neck is $150 and adding the chest is $150. RF microneedling for stretch marks and scars is $625 per session. VIP members save 10%.

How much does RF microneedling cost in Lubbock?

Changes in texture usually show over the weeks after a session. The collagen response keeps building for months after your last treatment, so the full result is best judged a few months out.

When will I see RF microneedling results?

Lumenis rates the FibroBoost applicator for all skin types. We still evaluate darker skin tones carefully and start with conservative settings, because any heat-based treatment can shift pigment. Sun protection afterward matters for everyone.

Is RF microneedling safe for all skin tones?

Book a complimentary consultation. We'll evaluate the concern (tightening, scarring, texture), confirm RF microneedling is the right tool, and design a treatment plan. Call (806) 701-5840 or book online.
