What is the ZO 3-Step Peel?

The ZO 3-Step Peel is the strongest peel we offer, and the only medical-grade one. It comes from ZO Skin Health, the line built by Dr. Zein Obagi, a dermatologist who spent his career on how skin repairs and renews itself. It is $375. In a single visit it works on uneven tone, rough texture, fine lines, and pigment more forcefully than a light peel can, because it reaches deeper and sets off a stronger round of renewal.

The "3-step" is literal. There is the peel we apply in the treatment room, and there is an at-home regimen you follow over the days that come after. The two together are the treatment, and the take-home part is not optional. Expect significant peeling for about five to seven days. This is not a lunchtime peel you can hide. What to expect from a ZO 3-Step Peel

Plan around this one. The visible peeling usually runs from about day three to day seven, and it is real flaking, not a light glow. Book it for a stretch when you do not have a wedding, a photo shoot, or a big event in the week after.

Aftercare comes down to two rules that matter more than the rest. First, protect your skin from the sun. Freshly peeled skin burns and marks easily, so wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day and stay out of direct sun while you heal. Sun exposure now is the fastest way to undo the result or set off new pigment. Second, do not pick. Let the skin flake off on its own, however tempting it is to help it along, because pulling at it is what turns a peel into a scar or a dark spot.

Some people should wait or start gentler, so be open with us first. Tell your provider if you are pregnant, since some peel acids are not used during pregnancy. Recent isotretinoin, the acne drug also sold as Accutane, means waiting, generally around six months after your last dose. An active cold sore, another skin infection, or broken skin in the area means we reschedule. And if your skin tone is deeper, you carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, a darkening that can follow treatment, so we favor a patch test and priming over anything aggressive. We cannot promise a specific result, and no honest provider will. What we can do is tell you what is realistic for your skin. A visit starts with a look at your skin and a short plan. We cleanse, then apply the peel solution, a blend of exfoliating acids, and leave it on for a set time. A retinol step follows. That step is the part that keeps driving renewal in the days after, prompting the skin to turn over faster and rebuild. That is the in-office half of the treatment.

The rest is the take-home regimen. You leave with the products and instructions for the follow-up steps, used on a schedule over the next several days while the skin does its shedding. Follow it as given, because the result depends on both halves. Every peel here is performed by our licensed estheticians, under our medical director Dr. Arledge, a plastic surgeon, and the spa has been open in Lubbock since 2016. Our other two peels are lighter by design. The AHA peel ($90) is glycolic acid at a strength that brightens and smooths with little downtime, and it is meant to be repeated about monthly as maintenance. The Herbal Green Peel ($275) is botanical rather than a straight acid, a gentler route we reach for with sensitive skin. The ZO 3-Step sits above both. It goes deeper, asks for real recovery, and is spaced further apart, usually once or twice a year or as your provider directs, not every month.
