Your First Med Spa Visit in Lubbock: What to Expect and What to Ask
At the front desk, the questions from first-time clients were rarely about the treatment itself. Do I need a consultation? Is there paperwork? Will someone push a package on me?
Below, we answer those and walk through what a first med spa visit here looks like. Then we cover how to judge any med spa before you trust it with your face, ours included.
What Happens Before You Walk In
Once you book, your intake paperwork arrives by email and by text. You can fill it out on your phone at home instead of on a clipboard in the lobby. It asks about your health history, medications and what you're hoping to change. Answer all of it. A provider can only screen you properly if they know what you take and what you've had done before.
How you book decides what's held. Book by phone and we keep a card on file, with no deposit. Book online and a deposit is required at booking. The amount varies by service, and it's applied to that service at your appointment. Either way, the only thing that costs you is a no-call, no-show, and the charge depends on the appointment you booked. If you need to move your appointment, call us.
Plan to arrive on time. We keep to our schedule out of respect for every client's time, so if you're more than 15 minutes late we may need to shorten or reschedule your service. For short appointments, like a 15-minute visit, arriving 15 minutes late means rescheduling.
Your First Appointment at The Spa by Sheena
We're at 8713 Milwaukee Ave, Suite 200, with free parking out front. Treatments are Tuesday through Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM and Saturday from 10 AM to 3 PM. On Mondays we're open 10 AM to 3 PM for product purchases and booking only, with no treatments. We're closed Sunday.
Your provider reviews your intake with you, asks about your goals and looks at the area you want treated. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons treats this as a baseline: a quality med spa should offer a real consultation before treatment covering your history, your goals and a personal plan, and it should be upfront about risks, results and cost. You'll also sign an informed consent form before any procedure, which ASPS points to as a sign of honest, ethical practice.
Consultation First or Treatment First?
It depends on the service. Many can be booked directly as your first appointment. Others start with a consultation. Hormone therapy is the clearest example: our program begins with a consultation and lab work before anyone decides on a dose. Our hormone therapy post explains why.
A consultation doesn't commit you to anything. Practitioners interviewed by the American Med Spa Association put it plainly: no patient should ever feel obligated to get treated the same day, and taking time to think or getting a second opinion is fine.
What "Physician-Supervised" Means in Lubbock
Cosmetic injections, fillers and laser skin procedures are legally classified as the practice of medicine, according to ASPS. That's why they require medical oversight, and why it matters who provides it. ASPS calls a med spa run by a physician trained in these treatments the gold standard, and plastic surgery is one of the specialties it names.
Our medical director is Dr. Patricia Arledge, a plastic surgeon who has practiced in Lubbock for more than 25 years. Our injectors include a family nurse practitioner and a registered nurse, and several of our medical estheticians are also trained laser techs. Every provider's name and credentials are on our team page.
You don't have to take anyone's word for it, ours included. The Texas Medical Board's Look Up a License tool shows a physician's license status and any board actions. The Texas Board of Nursing licenses registered nurses and nurse practitioners.
Questions to Ask Any Med Spa
Bring these to your first med spa visit, here or anywhere else:
Who will perform my treatment, and what license do they hold? ASPS suggests confirming this ahead of time so you aren't switched to someone else on the day.
Who is the medical director, and what's their specialty?
What product or device will you use? For filler, the FDA advises choosing a licensed provider experienced with it who explains the risks and benefits before you're treated.
What side effects should I watch for, and who do I contact if something seems off?
Red Flags Worth Walking Away From
There are no provider names or credentials anywhere on the website.
Someone pushes extra syringes or a package before understanding your goals. AmSpa's panel flags heavy sales tactics as a sign a practice cares more about your wallet than your well-being.
Prices sit far below everyone else's. ASPS warns this can mean lower-quality products or less experienced providers.
Filler is sold online or offered for self-injection. The FDA says approved dermal fillers are prescription-only and must be injected by a licensed professional.
After Your First Visit

Common Questions About Your First Med Spa Visit in Lubbock
Is the consultation free?
It depends on the service. Some consultations have a fee, and when they do, it's applied toward your treatment. Ask when you book.
What if my provider decides a treatment isn't right for me?
If you prepaid for a medical service and aren't a candidate for medical or safety reasons, the amount stays on your spa account as credit toward another service or product.
Is there a membership?
Yes. The VIP Membership is $150 a month, and that amount is credited toward services. Members also save 10% on treatments and on retail skincare.
