PiQo4 Laser Facial Aftercare

POST CARE GUIDE

PiQo4 Laser Facial Aftercare

PiQo4 is a Lumenis picosecond laser that sends ultra-short pulses of light into the skin to break up pigment, wake up collagen, and smooth texture without wounding the surface. Downtime is genuinely light: a few hours of redness and warmth, surface healing within about 12 hours, and gradual brightening that builds over a series of three to five sessions. When we treat brown spots, those spots often darken and flake for a week or two first, which is normal and part of the process. This guide walks through the calm, low-fuss aftercare that protects your result: the short pause on active skincare and heat, the daily sunscreen that is non-negotiable in Lubbock, and what to expect as your skin clears and remodels over the weeks ahead.

Your PiQo4 Laser Facial recovery at a glance

What happens, and when

Here is the path from treatment day to final result.

First 24 Hours

Cool and clean

Expect mild redness and a warm, sunburn-like feeling for the first several hours. Rinse with cool water and pat dry — nothing hot, no scrubs, no exfoliating cleanser. A cool compress for ten minutes at a time settles the heat if you want it. Skip the gym, sauna, hot yoga, and long hot showers today so you are not adding heat or sweat to skin that is still calming down. Most people look close to normal by the next morning.

Days 2 to 5

No actives, daily SPF

Keep your routine bare for a few days: a gentle cleanser, a fragrance-free moisturizer, and sunscreen, nothing more. Hold retinoids, glycolic and salicylic acids, vitamin C, and any scrub until the skin feels completely normal again, usually by about day five. Sunscreen is the one that is not optional — broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every morning, reapplied outdoors. PiQo4 lifts pigment toward the surface, and one sunny lunch break can pull it back. Lubbock sun counts, even through the car window.

Every 4 to 6 Weeks

Build the glow

One session brightens; a series is where tone and texture actually turn over. Most plans run three to six treatments spaced roughly four to six weeks apart, with the exact number set at your consultation based on what we are treating. Collagen keeps remodeling between visits, so skin often looks better a month out than it did the week after. Bring baseline photos and you will watch the change stack up. Booking the next session before you leave keeps the spacing on track for you.

How to care for treated skin through the bronzing phase

How to Care for Your Skin After a PiQo4 Laser Facial

Track tone and texture changes

Change from PiQo4 is gradual, which makes it easy to miss day to day. Take a clear, well-lit photo before your first session, then one every few weeks in the same spot and the same light. Improvement in tone, brown spots, and smoothness builds cumulatively, and most people underestimate it until they line up a genuine before-and-after. Photos also help your provider fine-tune the plan — what is responding, what needs another pass. Skin keeps remodeling for weeks after the last visit, so don't judge the final result too early.

Hydrate the skin barrier

Keep the skin well moisturized while it recovers. Morning and night for the first few days, layer a hyaluronic acid serum under a plain, fragrance-free moisturizer to hold water in and keep any flaking soft and comfortable. Well-hydrated skin looks less dry and feels better as the micro-crusts shed. Hold off on rich, heavily fragranced, or active-packed products for now — this is a stripped-back window, not the moment for your full shelf. If skin feels tight midday, reach for a little more moisturizer, not another wash.

Cool compress for discomfort

If the skin feels hot or tight in the first few hours, lay a cool, damp cloth over the area for ten to fifteen minutes, then take it off for a while before repeating. Cool, not frozen — no ice cubes straight on the skin, and no pressure. That is genuinely all most people need; PiQo4 discomfort is mild and short-lived. Skip numbing creams, hydrocortisone, and anything medicated unless your provider specifically told you to use it. If you want something for comfort, plain acetaminophen is fine.

Daily SPF (mandatory)

This is the one rule that makes or breaks your result. Wear a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher — the SkinBetter Science sunbetter Tone Smart SPF 75 we recommend — every morning, rain or shine, and reapply every two hours whenever you are outdoors for at least the first week. Sun on freshly treated skin undoes the pigment clearing you just paid for and raises the risk of new dark patches settling in. We recommend SkinBetter sunbetter Tone Smart, though any true broad-spectrum sunscreen you will actually wear daily is the right one. Add a wide-brimmed hat outside — West Texas sun is not gentle.

Resume regular skincare (next morning)

Go back to your basic routine the next morning: gentle cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen. Keep the stronger actives on hold — retinol and retinoids, AHAs and BHAs, benzoyl peroxide, vitamin C, and any physical scrub — for three to five days, or until the skin no longer feels sensitive. Reintroduce them one product at a time rather than restarting everything at once, so you can tell how your skin is handling each. If you are on a prescription regimen and are not sure what is safe to resume, ask us at your visit.

Makeup after 30 minutes (24 hours preferred)

You can apply makeup about thirty minutes after treatment if you need to, but waiting until the next morning is better. Giving the skin a full day lets the surface barrier reset and the warmth fully settle before you layer product over it. When you do go back to makeup, start with clean brushes and a fresh sponge — freshly treated skin is more open to irritation, and last month's bacteria is not what you want on it. Lighter mineral formulas tend to sit more comfortably than heavy full coverage the first day back.

Redness, bronzing, and what is normal in the first week

What's Normal: PiQo4 Laser Facial Downtime

Normal, temporary, and part of the process.

Pigment darkening (some clients, days 2 to 7)

When we are targeting sun spots or brown patches, those spots often look darker before they look better. Over the first few days the treated pigment rises toward the surface, can resemble flecks of coffee grounds, and forms tiny micro-crusts that flake off on their own across one to two weeks. This is the treatment working, not a problem. Do not pick, scrub, or peel them — lifting a crust early is how a brown spot can turn into a scar or a longer-lasting mark. Let it shed on its own schedule.

Surface fully healed (12 hours)

Because PiQo4 does not break the skin, the surface is essentially healed within about twelve hours. Most people are back to work, makeup, and their normal morning by the next day, which is what makes this a lunch-break-friendly treatment rather than a week spent indoors. Healed on top does not mean finished underneath, though — collagen remodeling and pigment clearing keep going quietly for weeks. So the fast turnaround is real, and so is the slower work you cannot see yet.

Mild tenderness (1 to 3 days)

For a day to three the skin can feel a little tender, tight, or warm to the touch, the way your face feels after too much sun. It settles on its own, no special products required. Beyond the short pause on active ingredients and heat, there are no real restrictions — you can work, drive, and see people as usual. Sleep on a clean pillowcase and keep your hands off your face. If the tenderness climbs instead of fading, or swelling builds past the first day, call the spa.

Redness and warmth (a few hours)

Right after treatment your skin looks flushed and feels warm, much like a mild sunburn. That is the expected response to the laser's energy, and it usually eases within a few hours, sometimes by the end of the day. PiQo4 works below the surface with ultra-short pulses, so the skin barrier stays intact — no open wounds and no scabbing to manage on a standard facial setting. You can be out in public the same day. If the redness is still marked past 24 hours, give us a quick call.

Sun, heat, and products to avoid post-treatment

What to Avoid After a PiQo4 Laser Facial

Makeup (first 30 minutes)

Do not apply makeup for at least 30 minutes after treatment. Mineral makeup after 30 minutes is fine. Liquid foundation is better deferred to the next morning.

restriction-icon-gold.png

Hot Showers

No hot showers, hot tubs, or steam-room visits for 48 hours. Lukewarm water only — heat is the main thing that prolongs the post-treatment pink.

Picking & Scrubbing

If any pigment surfacing or flaking appears in the days after treatment, do not scrub or pick. Let it shed naturally — picking causes pigment issues in cleared spots.

restriction-icon-gold.png

Active Skincare

Hold retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C, and exfoliators for 3 to 5 days. Reintroduce gently — vitamin C first, retinol last.

restriction-icon-gold.png

Sun Exposure

Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 1 week and use daily SPF 30+ year-round. Recently-treated skin is photosensitive — new sun exposure can undo the pigment work.

Sweating & Heat

Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, hot tubs, and steam rooms for 24 hours. Heat dilates blood vessels and can prolong post-treatment redness.

When to Call The Spa After a PiQo4 Laser Facial

Contact The Spa immediately if you experience:

Mild redness, warmth, and a sunburn-like feeling for a few hours are normal, and when we treat brown spots those spots often darken, look like coffee grounds, and flake over a week or two — that is expected too. PiQo4 is a low-downtime treatment, but call us if you notice any of the following:

  • Redness or swelling that lasts more than 24 hours, or that keeps getting worse instead of easing.
  • Blistering or broken skin — uncommon with PiQo4, but worth a call if it happens.
  • Signs of infection — spreading redness, pus, warmth, or a fever.
  • Unusual pigment changes — new dark patches or pale patches that appear after treatment.
  • Signs of an allergic reaction — hives, intense itching, or swelling beyond the treated area.

FAQ

Your questions,  answered

We’ve answered some of the most common questions below to help make your experience simple, transparent, and stress-free.

PiQo4 is a picosecond laser—delivering ultra-fast pulses (a trillionth of a second) at four wavelengths. We use it for: tattoo removal across all ink colors, melasma treatment, sun damage and pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, and general facial rejuvenation. It's one of the most versatile lasers available.

What is the PiQo4 laser and what does it treat?

Speed and gentleness. Older lasers used nanosecond pulses (one billionth of a second). PiQo4's picosecond pulses are 1000x faster, generating less heat per pulse. Result: more effective ink/pigment shattering, less thermal damage, less downtime, and ability to safely treat darker skin tones.

How is PiQo4 different from other lasers?

For ongoing skin health and sustained results, treatments are recommended on a regular cycle every 4 to 6 weeks. Most patients see meaningful improvement after 3–5 sessions for tone, texture, and pigmentation. Specific issues (deep melasma, significant sun damage) may need additional sessions.

How many PiQo4 facial sessions will I need?

Each pulse feels like a quick snap. The treatment is fast—a full face takes 15–20 minutes. We apply topical numbing for sensitive patients. Most describe it as more tolerable than expected, especially given the results. Sensitive areas (around lips, eyes) feel more than the cheeks.

Does PiQo4 hurt?

Recovery is about 1 day. Mild redness and slight swelling for 24 hours. Some patients develop a temporary darker tone where pigment was treated, fading over 5–10 days. Use SPF religiously, gentle cleanser, heavy moisturizer.

What's the recovery from PiQo4?

PiQo4 Laser Facial is $325 per session. Series of 3–5 sessions priced with package discount. Membership reduces per-session cost.

What does PiQo4 facial cost in Lubbock?

Yes—picosecond technology is significantly safer for darker skin than older laser systems. PiQo4 has been used safely across the Fitzpatrick scale. We adjust settings based on your specific skin type and never use settings inappropriate for your skin. Some skin tones may need a test patch before the first full session.

Is PiQo4 safe for darker skin tones?

Initial improvements (better tone, brighter skin) visible within 1–2 weeks of the first session. Significant pigmentation lifting visible after 2–3 sessions. Full collagen-driven texture improvement appears 3 months after a complete series as your body rebuilds.

When will I see PiQo4 results?

Sun damage and brown spots (highly responsive). Tattoo removal of all colors (highly responsive). Melasma (responsive with the right settings). Fine lines (moderately responsive). Active acne (not the right tool—use Carbon Cleanse). Deep scarring (RF microneedling is better).

What conditions respond best to PiQo4?

Book a complimentary laser consultation. We'll examine the concern you're treating, evaluate your skin type, and determine whether PiQo4 or another modality is the right fit. Wrong-device treatment is the most common cause of disappointing laser results. Call (806) 701-5840 or book online.
