Herbal Green Peel Aftercare

POST CARE GUIDE

Herbal Green Peel Aftercare

The Herbal Green Peel is a botanical peel — it works with finely ground herbs and plant material rather than a straight chemical acid. Because it leans on plant matter instead of a strong acid, it is often a gentler option for sensitive skin, and it is also used to help even out tone and soften melasma. Expect a controlled shed over roughly three to five days, with the amount of peeling varying a good deal from person to person. The first 24 hours follow a strict no-wash rule and a kit-only routine. This guide covers the whole recovery: the herbal kit routine, the flaking phase, the firm no-pick rule, daily broad-spectrum sun protection, and how a planned series of three to four peels builds the fuller result in tone and texture.

Your Herbal Green Peel recovery at a glance

What happens, and when

Here is the path from treatment day to final result.

First 24 Hours

No washing

Keep water off your face for the first 24 hours. Cleanse using only the herbal care lotion in your take-home kit, smoothed on with clean fingertips in the morning and again at night — no tap water, no other cleanser, no makeup. This is the strictest part of the whole recovery, and it is short. Giving the treated surface a full day undisturbed sets up a more even shed over the days ahead. If anything feels off on day one, call us at (806) 701-5840.

Days 2 to 5

Flaking phase

Somewhere around day two the peeling begins, and it usually runs through about day five. How much you flake varies a lot from one person to the next — some shed lightly, others peel in visible sheets, and both are normal. Let every flake come away on its own. Do not help it along by rubbing, pulling, or picking, even when a piece is hanging loose. Keep applying your kit products and keep your hands off. The new skin underneath needs the old surface to release on its own schedule.

Monthly Series

Compound the result

One peel freshens the surface. The fuller change in tone and texture comes from a planned series — usually three to four peels spaced four to six weeks apart. That spacing lines up with your skin's own renewal cycle so each session builds on the one before instead of overlapping it. Between sessions, daily broad-spectrum sunscreen and the gentle home routine protect what you have gained. Your provider will map out a cadence that fits your skin and your goals at your visit.

How to care for peeling skin through day 5

How to Care for Your Skin After a Green Peel

Hydrate inside and out

Keep your skin comfortable and well moisturized through the flaking week. Apply the kit cream whenever your face feels tight or dry — dryness tends to peak partway through the peel, and there is no prize for toughing it out. Drinking water and running a humidifier at night help skin that feels parched. Comfortable, supple skin is also easier to leave alone, which is the whole point: the less tempted you are to pick at tight, flaky patches, the cleaner your result. Reach for moisture, not your fingertips.

Hands off — no picking

When the peeling starts, your skin will flake, tighten, and sometimes itch. Let all of it happen without intervening. Picking, peeling, or scrubbing off skin that has not released on its own pulls up tissue that is not ready and raises your risk of scarring, infection, and uneven color once you heal. This is the single most important rule of the whole recovery. If a flap of dry skin is catching on something, dab on more kit cream to soften it rather than pulling it away.

Do not wash the face (first 24 hours)

Leave your face unwashed with water for a full 24 hours after your appointment. Through that first day, the herbal care lotion in your kit is your only cleanser — a thin layer morning and night, applied gently with clean fingertips and nothing else. No washcloths, no cleansing brushes, no rinsing under the shower stream. Let the water run over your back, not your face. Keeping water off early gives the treated surface time to settle before the peeling phase gets underway.

Daily SPF (mandatory from day 3)

Once your skin can tolerate product again — generally around day three — put on a broad-spectrum sunscreen every single morning and reapply through the day when you are outdoors. Use the SkinBetter Science Tone Smart SPF 75 from your kit, or another broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher. Freshly peeled skin burns and discolors far more easily than untreated skin, and unprotected sun is the quickest way to trade your results for new dark spots. Back it up with shade, a hat, and less midday sun while you heal — and keep the habit long after.

Resume regular skincare (after flaking)

Go back to your everyday routine only once the flaking has completely stopped, usually around day five to seven. Reintroduce products one at a time rather than all at once, starting with the gentlest. Hold off on retinoids, glycolic or salicylic acid, strong vitamin C, scrubs, and any other active until your skin looks and feels fully calm — these can sting or spark irritation on freshly surfaced skin, and irritation is what drives uneven color. If you are unsure whether something is too soon, bring it up at your next visit or call the spa first.

Use only your Green Peel home care kit

For the first five days, the only products that touch your face are the ones in your Green Peel home care kit — the herbal care lotion morning and night, the blemish balm, and the regulating cream, used as directed. Skip your usual cleanser, serums, and moisturizers for now. Layering outside products onto skin that is already sensitive raises the odds of irritation and uneven color. The kit is built to carry you through this exact window. Once the flaking has fully finished, you can start folding your regular routine back in.

Heat, redness, and the visible peel-and-reveal phase

What's Normal: Green Peel Downtime

Normal, temporary, and part of the process.

Fresh, glowing skin (days 5 to 7)

By the end of the first week the flaking wraps up and the new surface shows through — smoother, brighter, and often a little pink at first. That pink tone is young skin, and it calms down over the following days. Hold off on heavy makeup until the pinkness settles, and keep sunscreen on every morning without exception, because this fresh skin marks and discolors easily. Be gentle a while longer. The result keeps refining for a couple of weeks as the new surface fully settles and evens out.

Active flaking (days 3 to 5)

The visible peeling runs roughly from day three to day five. Shedding often begins around the mouth and central face and works outward across the cheeks and forehead. How heavy it gets is very individual — light flaking for some, sheet-like peeling for others, and neither is better or worse. Whatever yours looks like, let it release on its own timeline. No pulling at loose edges, no exfoliating, no trying to speed it up. Your kit cream softens rough patches so they lift cleanly when they are genuinely ready to go.

Tightness and dryness (days 2 to 4)

As the redness fades, the treated skin turns tight and dry, and it may look faintly crinkled where it is about to shed. This is the driest stretch of the whole process, usually days two through four. Apply your kit cream generously and as often as you need for comfort — it will not stop the peel, it just keeps you comfortable while the surface prepares to release. Expect your face to feel stiff when you smile or talk. That eases as the flaking takes over and the new skin starts to come through.

Redness and warmth (first 24 hours)

Right after your peel, expect your face to look pink or flushed and feel warm to the touch, a bit like a mild sunburn. That is a normal response to the exfoliation and usually the most colorful your skin will look. Over the first 24 hours the warmth eases and the surface starts to feel tight and dry instead. Stick to your kit products, skip heat like hot showers, saunas, and hard workouts that flush the face, and let things settle. Redness that climbs or worsens after the first day is worth a call to us.

What to avoid while your skin actively peels

What to Avoid After a Green Peel

restriction-icon-gold.png

Makeup (until skin is calm)

No makeup until flaking is fully complete — typically 5 to 7 days. Applying foundation to peeling skin traps the shedding and prolongs recovery.

restriction-icon-gold.png

Water on the Face (first 24 hours)

Do not wash the face with water for the first 24 hours. Use only the herbal care lotion in your home kit during this window.

restriction-icon-gold.png

Picking & Peeling

Do not pick, peel, scrub, or pull at flaking skin. Use scissors to trim hanging flakes if needed. Forced removal causes scarring and uneven shedding.

restriction-icon-gold.png

Sweating & Heat

Avoid sweating, strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms, and hot showers for 48 hours. Sweat and heat both interfere with the herbal absorption phase.

restriction-icon-gold.png

Sun Exposure (2 weeks)

Avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks. SPF 30+ daily once skin can tolerate product (day 3 forward). Sun on the new skin causes long-lasting pigmentation.

Active Skincare

No retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C, or exfoliators until flaking is complete and skin is no longer pink — typically 7 to 10 days. Reintroduce slowly.

When to Call The Spa After a Green Peel

Contact The Spa immediately if you experience:

Redness, warmth, tightness, dryness, and visible flaking across about three to five days are all normal and expected after a Green Peel — most clients heal without any trouble. Call us if something falls outside that, including:

  • Signs of infection — redness that keeps spreading after day three, heat, swelling, pus, or a fever.
  • An allergic-type reaction — hives, intense itching, or swelling beyond the treated area. The Green Peel uses herbal ingredients, so reactions are rare but possible.
  • A cold sore starting — tingling, stinging, or blisters around the mouth. Facial peels can reactivate the cold-sore virus in people who are prone to it, and it is very treatable when caught early.
  • Blistering or raw, broken skin beyond what your provider described at your appointment.
  • Pain that keeps building instead of easing day by day.

During business hours, call the spa at (806) 701-5840. For severe or fast-worsening symptoms after hours, go to the nearest urgent care or emergency room.

FAQ

Your questions,  answered

We’ve answered some of the most common questions below to help make your experience simple, transparent, and stress-free.

An herbal alternative to acid-based chemical peels. Uses ground botanicals (eight herbs traditionally) massaged into the skin to create moderate exfoliation through mechanical action and plant-based actives—not acid chemistry. Excellent option for sensitive skin or melasma patients who don't tolerate aggressive acid peels.

What is the Herbal Green Peel?

No acid chemistry. The exfoliation comes from mechanical action of the herbs being massaged in plus plant compounds with mild active properties. Results similar to medium-depth acid peels but without acid-related risks. Particularly good for patients with sensitivity, melasma, or rosacea-adjacent concerns.

How is the Herbal Green Peel different from chemical peels?

Hyperpigmentation, melasma, texture concerns, fine lines, mild scarring, and overall renewal—particularly for patients who don't tolerate acid peels well. Also good for ongoing maintenance in patients with reactive skin.

What does the Herbal Green Peel treat?

Mild stinging during massage application—lasts a few minutes. Skin feels warm and tight afterward. Less intense than acid peels. Most patients describe it as more pleasant than expected.

Does the Herbal Green Peel hurt?

Recovery is about 2 days. Mild redness and flaking. Visible peeling resolves within a few days. Skin renewal is significant. Plan around social events—visible flaking is part of the result.

What's the downtime?

$275 per peel. A series of treatments spaced 4 weeks apart is recommended, followed by maintenance treatments to sustain your results. Members receive discounted pricing.

How much does the Herbal Green Peel cost in Lubbock?

Yes—generally gentler than acid peels for melasma. Aggressive acid peels can sometimes trigger melasma flare; the herbal approach is less likely to cause this reaction. Still combine with strict sun protection and home regimen for best results.

Is the Herbal Green Peel safe for melasma?

A series of treatments spaced 4 weeks apart is recommended, followed by maintenance treatments to sustain your results.

How often should I get the Herbal Green Peel?

Strict sun avoidance for 7–10 days. SPF 30+ daily. Heavy moisturizer. Skip retinoids and active acids for 10 days. Don't pick at peeling skin—let it shed naturally.
