POST CARE GUIDE
Microneedling Aftercare

YOUR RECOVERY, IN ORDER
What happens, and when
Here is the path from treatment day to final result.
Days 4 to 7
Light peeling, no picking
Light flaking is normal as your skin regenerates. Do not pick. Visible improvement compounds across a series of 3 to 6 sessions, every 4 to 6 weeks.
Days 2 to 3
Sunburn feel
Mild redness and tightness like a sunburn. Skip makeup, exercise, saunas, hot showers, and direct sun until skin no longer feels sensitive.
First 24 Hours
Hyaluronic only
Cleanse with lukewarm water. Apply hyaluronic acid and a fragrance-free moisturizer. The microchannels stay open for 24 hours — keep it minimal.

How to Care for Your Skin After Microneedling
First 6 hours (do nothing)
Apply nothing to the skin for the first 6 hours after treatment. No makeup, SPF, serums, or moisturizer. The microchannels are open and any product can carry bacteria into them.
Daily SPF 30+ (from day 2)
Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every morning starting day 2. The SkinBetter Science SPF 68 compact reapplies easily through the day. Sun exposure during recovery causes hyperpigmentation in treated areas.
Reintroduce actives (day 5 to 7)
Around day 5 to 7, gradually reintroduce gentle vitamin C and low-strength retinol. Hold off on stronger actives (retinoic acid, high-strength AHA/BHA peels) for the full 2 weeks.
Clean hands and pillowcase
Wash hands thoroughly before touching your face. Sleep on a fresh pillowcase each night for the first 3 nights. Bacteria from yesterday's pillowcase is one of the most common causes of breakouts after microneedling.
Resume cleanser AM and PM (day 2)
On day 2, return to a gentle cleanser morning and evening. Stick with hyaluronic acid and bland moisturizer. Skip vitamin C, retinol, AHAs, BHAs, and exfoliators for at least 5 days.
Hyaluronic acid (first 24 hours)
Once 6 hours have passed, apply a hyaluronic acid serum and a fragrance-free moisturizer. Cleanse with lukewarm water and fingertips only — no washcloths, brushes, or active cleansers.

FOR ONE WEEK
What to Avoid After Microneedling

Picking & Scrubbing
Do not pick at peeling skin or use any physical exfoliator (scrub, washcloth, face brush, dermaplane) for at least 10 days. Picking causes hyperpigmentation and can scar.

Swimming
No pools, hot tubs, or open water (lakes, ocean) for 48 to 72 hours. Pool chemistry and waterborne bacteria can both cause infection through the open channels.

Active Skincare
No retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C, or exfoliators until the skin is fully healed (typically 7 to 10 days). These ingredients on raw skin cause irritation and prolong recovery.

Sweating & Heat
No sweating, strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms, or hot tubs for 24 hours. Sweat introduces bacteria into the open microchannels and risks infection.

Makeup
No makeup for at least 24 hours. Brushes and applicators carry bacteria, and pigment can become trapped in open channels and cause uneven healing.

Sun Exposure
Avoid direct sun for at least 7 days. SPF 30+ minimum from day 2 forward. Sun during the healing phase causes hyperpigmentation in treated areas.

KEEPING RESULTS
When to Book Your Next Microneedling Session
Cumulative result (after 3 sessions)
Best results come from a series of 3 to 6 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Acne scarring and deeper texture concerns typically need the full 6-session series.
Initial result (2 to 4 weeks)
Visible smoothing and brightening start showing at 2 to 4 weeks as new collagen begins forming. Pore appearance and fine line softening continue to develop through week 8.
Maintenance cadence
Once you complete your series, maintenance treatments every 3 to 4 months sustain the result. Collagen production slows with age, and steady maintenance keeps new collagen building.
FAQ
Your questions, answered
We’ve answered some of the most common questions below to help make your experience simple, transparent, and stress-free.
Microneedling uses tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, triggering your body's natural collagen and elastin production. Over a series of treatments, this improves texture, softens fine lines, fades acne scars and stretch marks, reduces pore size, and produces firmer, healthier-looking skin. It's one of the most versatile collagen-induction treatments available.
What is microneedling and what does it treat?
SkinPen is the only FDA-cleared microneedling device for facial acne scars and neck wrinkles. The needle cartridges are sterile single-use, eliminating cross-contamination risk. The vertical needle motion produces cleaner micro-channels than older roller-based devices. Results are more consistent and recovery is faster.
What's the difference between SkinPen and other microneedling devices?
Most patients see meaningful improvement after a series of 3 to 4 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Acne scars or significant concerns may benefit from additional sessions. Maintenance sessions on a regular cycle keep results long-term. Adding PRP accelerates results and may reduce total sessions needed.
How many microneedling sessions will I need?
Standard microneedling creates micro-injuries at the surface to trigger collagen. RF (radiofrequency) microneedling adds heat energy through those same needles, treating deeper layers simultaneously. RF is better for skin tightening, jowl/neck laxity, deep stretch marks, and significant scarring. Standard microneedling is excellent for texture, pores, and mild concerns.
How is microneedling different from RF microneedling?
We apply topical numbing for 30–45 minutes before treatment. With proper numbing, most patients describe it as mild discomfort—rough or scratchy sensation. Sensitive areas (around the nose, lips) feel more. We adjust needle depth based on the area being treated. Without numbing, microneedling would be significantly uncomfortable; with it, it's well-tolerated.
Does microneedling hurt?
Recovery is about 5 days. Day 1: looks like a sunburn. Day 2–3: redness fading, skin feels slightly rough. Day 4–5: minor flaking, fresh skin underneath. Use heavy moisturizer, gentle cleanser, and strict SPF for the first week. Skip retinoids and active acids for 5–7 days post-treatment.
What's the recovery from microneedling?
Yes—it's one of the most effective non-laser treatments for acne scars. Microneedling triggers collagen remodeling in the scarred tissue, gradually filling and softening the depressions. Most patients see meaningful improvement after a series of 3 to 4 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Combining with PRP further accelerates results. Best for atrophic (depressed) scars; raised scars need different approaches.
Can microneedling help with acne scars?
Yes—particularly for white/silver stretch marks (mature ones). Microneedling triggers collagen building in the stretched skin, improving texture and tightness. Most patients need 6+ sessions for visible improvement. RF microneedling is more effective for deeper stretch marks. We can address stretch marks on abdomen, hips, thighs, breasts, and arms.
Can microneedling help with stretch marks?
Yes—visibly enlarged pores typically tighten 20–40% across a series of treatments. Collagen rebuilding around the pore opening reduces visible diameter. Combining with topical retinoids extends results. Pore size is partially genetic; we can improve significantly but not eliminate.
Will microneedling shrink my pores?
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is your own blood, spun to concentrate platelets and growth factors. When applied to skin during microneedling, those growth factors are driven deep into the micro-channels. Result: faster healing, better collagen response, more dramatic results per session. We recommend adding PRP for patients treating acne scars, significant texture issues, or wanting accelerated results.
What's PRP microneedling and why add it?
SkinPen Microneedling is $450 per session. PRP-enhanced microneedling is $250 (PRP for Face / Microneedling). RF Microneedling: $375–$650 per session depending on area. Membership reduces per-session pricing.
How much does microneedling cost in Lubbock?
Most healthy adults with concerns about texture, pores, fine lines, mild scarring, or stretch marks are candidates. Not appropriate during active acne breakouts in the treatment area, with active herpes outbreaks, on Accutane (within 6 months), pregnant, or with certain bleeding disorders. We screen at consultation.
Who's a candidate for microneedling?
Yes—commonly paired with chemical peels (alternating in a series), PRP (same session), RF for added tightening, and various topical regimens. We design multi-modal plans for patients with complex concerns. Spacing matters—we'll sequence treatments so skin can recover between.
Can I combine microneedling with other treatments?
Initial glow within days. Texture improvement visible by week 4–6 after each session. Full collagen-driven results from a complete series appear at 3 months as collagen continues building. Don't judge a single session—the cumulative result across a series is what matters.
When will I see microneedling results?
