What it is

SkinPen is the first FDA-cleared microneedling device. It uses an automated motorized pen with disposable sterile needle cartridges to create precise micro-injuries in the skin. The body responds by producing new collagen and elastin, which over a series of treatments improves texture, fine lines, scarring, pores, and overall skin quality.

What to expect

Immediately after, your skin will look red and feel warm, like a moderate sunburn. Mild swelling is normal for 24 to 48 hours. Some pinpoint bleeding during treatment is normal; it stops quickly. Skin may feel tight or dry for several days.

Skip makeup, retinoids, and active skincare ingredients for 48 to 72 hours. Avoid sun exposure and use SPF religiously. No swimming, hot tubs, or saunas for 48 hours.

Visible improvement appears around week 3 after each session. Most patients see best results after the full series (3 to 6 sessions) is complete.

Recovery from SkinPen is about 5 days. Day 1: looks like a sunburn. Day 2–3: redness fading, possible mild flaking. Day 4–5: skin healed and fresh underneath. Use heavy moisturizer, gentle cleanser, and strict SPF during healing. Skip retinoids and active acids for 5–7 days.

What's the recovery from SkinPen?
