What to expect
You've just had your microneedling treatment. Your skin is in a delicate, regenerative state for the next several days. The instructions below protect the work, accelerate healing, and set you up for the cumulative results that come with consistent sessions.
Why this matters
Microneedling creates thousands of micro-channels in the upper layers of your skin. Those channels close within hours, but the deeper repair process — collagen production — continues for weeks. During the first 24 to 72 hours, your skin is more sensitive to bacteria, sun, and active ingredients. Treating it gently during this window is what allows the longer healing process to play out cleanly.
Post care
- Morning: gentle cleanser, gentle moisturizer, then SPF.
- Evening: gentle cleanser, gentle moisturizer.
- Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your face.
- Sleep on a fresh pillowcase each night to reduce bacterial exposure.
- Apply SkinBetter Science SPF 68 compact daily and reapply as needed.
Downtime
Your skin will appear pink to red for the first 24 to 48 hours — similar to a mild sunburn. Light, flaky peeling may occur around days 4 to 5 as the skin renews itself. Most patients return to normal social activities within 1 to 2 days.
Restrictions
- For the first 24 hours: avoid sweating, strenuous exercise, saunas, and swimming. Avoid all makeup.
- For at least 7 days: protect your skin from direct sun exposure.
- Until skin is fully healed: avoid all active skincare ingredients, including AHAs, BHAs, and retinols.

Follow up
For optimal collagen stimulation and cumulative results, your next session should be scheduled 4 to 6 weeks following treatment. Most patients see meaningful improvement after a series of 3 to 4 treatments.
Microneedling uses tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, triggering your body's natural collagen and elastin production. Over a series of treatments, this improves texture, softens fine lines, fades acne scars and stretch marks, reduces pore size, and produces firmer, healthier-looking skin. It's one of the most versatile collagen-induction treatments available.
What is microneedling and what does it treat?
SkinPen is the only FDA-cleared microneedling device for facial acne scars and neck wrinkles. The needle cartridges are sterile single-use, eliminating cross-contamination risk. The vertical needle motion produces cleaner micro-channels than older roller-based devices. Results are more consistent and recovery is faster.
What's the difference between SkinPen and other microneedling devices?
Most patients see meaningful improvement after a series of 3 to 4 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Acne scars or significant concerns may benefit from additional sessions. Maintenance sessions on a regular cycle keep results long-term. Adding PRP accelerates results and may reduce total sessions needed.
How many microneedling sessions will I need?
Standard microneedling creates micro-injuries at the surface to trigger collagen. RF (radiofrequency) microneedling adds heat energy through those same needles, treating deeper layers simultaneously. RF is better for skin tightening, jowl/neck laxity, deep stretch marks, and significant scarring. Standard microneedling is excellent for texture, pores, and mild concerns.
How is microneedling different from RF microneedling?
We apply topical numbing for 30–45 minutes before treatment. With proper numbing, most patients describe it as mild discomfort—rough or scratchy sensation. Sensitive areas (around the nose, lips) feel more. We adjust needle depth based on the area being treated. Without numbing, microneedling would be significantly uncomfortable; with it, it's well-tolerated.
Does microneedling hurt?
Recovery is about 5 days. Day 1: looks like a sunburn. Day 2–3: redness fading, skin feels slightly rough. Day 4–5: minor flaking, fresh skin underneath. Use heavy moisturizer, gentle cleanser, and strict SPF for the first week. Skip retinoids and active acids for 5–7 days post-treatment.
What's the recovery from microneedling?
Yes—it's one of the most effective non-laser treatments for acne scars. Microneedling triggers collagen remodeling in the scarred tissue, gradually filling and softening the depressions. Most patients see meaningful improvement after a series of 3 to 4 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Combining with PRP further accelerates results. Best for atrophic (depressed) scars; raised scars need different approaches.
Can microneedling help with acne scars?
Yes—particularly for white/silver stretch marks (mature ones). Microneedling triggers collagen building in the stretched skin, improving texture and tightness. Most patients need 6+ sessions for visible improvement. RF microneedling is more effective for deeper stretch marks. We can address stretch marks on abdomen, hips, thighs, breasts, and arms.
Can microneedling help with stretch marks?
Yes—visibly enlarged pores typically tighten 20–40% across a series of treatments. Collagen rebuilding around the pore opening reduces visible diameter. Combining with topical retinoids extends results. Pore size is partially genetic; we can improve significantly but not eliminate.
Will microneedling shrink my pores?
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is your own blood, spun to concentrate platelets and growth factors. When applied to skin during microneedling, those growth factors are driven deep into the micro-channels. Result: faster healing, better collagen response, more dramatic results per session. We recommend adding PRP for patients treating acne scars, significant texture issues, or wanting accelerated results.
What's PRP microneedling and why add it?
SkinPen Microneedling is $450 per session. PRP-enhanced microneedling is $250 (PRP for Face / Microneedling). RF Microneedling: $375–$650 per session depending on area. Membership reduces per-session pricing.
How much does microneedling cost in Lubbock?
Most healthy adults with concerns about texture, pores, fine lines, mild scarring, or stretch marks are candidates. Not appropriate during active acne breakouts in the treatment area, with active herpes outbreaks, on Accutane (within 6 months), pregnant, or with certain bleeding disorders. We screen at consultation.
Who's a candidate for microneedling?
Yes—commonly paired with chemical peels (alternating in a series), PRP (same session), RF for added tightening, and various topical regimens. We design multi-modal plans for patients with complex concerns. Spacing matters—we'll sequence treatments so skin can recover between.
Can I combine microneedling with other treatments?
Initial glow within days. Texture improvement visible by week 4–6 after each session. Full collagen-driven results from a complete series appear at 3 months as collagen continues building. Don't judge a single session—the cumulative result across a series is what matters.
