What it is
What it does
Xeomin is incobotulinumtoxinA, an FDA-approved neurotoxin sometimes called a "naked" toxin. The active molecule is the same as Botox and Dysport, but Xeomin is filtered to remove the accessory proteins those other formulations contain. The clinical effect is the same: targeted facial muscles relax, and the lines those muscles create soften.
Where we treat
- Glabellar lines (the "11s" between the brows)
- Forehead lines
- Crow's feet
- Bunny lines
What to expect
After your appointment, you may notice small temporary bumps at each injection site. These resolve quickly. Some patients bruise; if you do, expect it to clear within 7 to 10 days.
Keep your head upright and avoid lying flat for the first few hours. Skip makeup for 3 hours, sweating and exercise for 12 hours, and flying for 48 hours. Softening starts in 3 to 5 days. Full results land at about 2 weeks, after which treated areas hold for roughly 3 to 4 months.
How it compares
The difference is what's not in the formulation. Some patients develop resistance to neurotoxins over time, which is thought to be linked to immune response to the accessory proteins in other products. Xeomin gives those patients an option that may avoid that response. It's also worth considering for patients new to neurotoxins who want the simplest possible formulation.
The treatment
A session takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Small amounts of product are placed with a fine needle into the muscles to be treated. Most patients describe the sensation as a quick pinch. Softening starts in 3 to 5 days, and full results develop over about 14 days. Treated areas hold for roughly 3 to 4 months.
Benefits
NAKED FORMULA
Filtered to remove accessory proteins—the cleanest neurotoxin formulation available.
RESISTANCE OPTION
Excellent choice for patients who've developed reduced response to Botox or Dysport over years of treatment.
AUTOIMMUNE FRIENDLY
Patients with autoimmune sensitivities often prefer Xeomin's minimal formulation.
WRINKLE SOFTENING
Same effective wrinkle reduction as other neurotoxins with the cleanest possible formulation.
FDA-APPROVED
Long-established neurotoxin with consistent results and a strong safety profile.
Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) is an FDA-approved neurotoxin that's been "naked"—the accessory proteins typically attached to botulinum toxin have been filtered out. Xeomin is just the pure neurotoxin molecule, nothing else. Same effectiveness as Botox; fewer additional proteins means lower theoretical risk of immune resistance over time.
What is Xeomin and how is it different from Botox?
Patients who've used Botox or Dysport for years and started seeing reduced effectiveness (possible immune resistance), patients with concerns about accessory proteins, and patients with autoimmune history who want the cleanest possible formulation. Most first-time patients don't need to start with Xeomin—but it's a great option if you've plateaued on other products.
Who should consider Xeomin?
Average 3–4 months, similar to Botox. Some research suggests slightly faster onset. Most patients see no clinical difference in duration compared to Botox or Dysport.
How long does Xeomin last?
Xeomin is $14 per unit—identical to Botox per-unit pricing. Unit counts and effect are also comparable. The reason to choose Xeomin isn't price; it's that Xeomin has no accessory proteins, useful for patients who've developed resistance to Botox or Dysport over years of treatment. Members receive discounted pricing on all neurotoxins.
Does Xeomin cost more than Botox?
Not for most patients—same effectiveness, same duration. "Better" depends on your situation. If you've developed resistance to Botox, Xeomin is better for you. If you've responded well to Botox for years, no reason to switch.
Is Xeomin better than Botox?
Same as other neurotoxins—quick pinches with an ultra-fine needle. Topical numbing available for sensitive patients.
Does Xeomin hurt?
Same as other neurotoxins. No real downtime, stay upright for 4 hours, avoid heat/strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Effects begin at 4–7 days, peak at 14 days.
What's the recovery from Xeomin?
Yes—straightforward switch with no waiting period needed. Many patients try Xeomin specifically because Botox stopped working as well. We can discuss whether switching makes sense for you at consultation.
Can I switch from Botox to Xeomin?
Theoretically less likely than other neurotoxins because there are no accessory proteins to trigger antibody response. Patients who've been on Botox/Dysport for years may not see resistance issues at all when switching to Xeomin.
Will I lose response to Xeomin over time?
First-time patients: complimentary consultation to discuss whether Xeomin makes sense for your situation. Returning patients: book directly. Call (806) 701-5840 or book online.
