Dermaplaning uses a sterile surgical blade to gently scrape the surface of the skin, removing dead skin cells and fine vellus hair ("peach fuzz"). Result: immediate smoothness, brighter tone, and flawless makeup application.

What to expect

Dermaplaning is painless. Most patients describe it as a light tickling or scraping sensation. The aesthetician works in small sections across the face.

Skin may be slightly pink for 30 to 60 minutes post-treatment. Otherwise, no downtime — you can wear makeup immediately.

Skip active skincare ingredients (retinol, AHA/BHA) for 24 to 48 hours after treatment. Use SPF (the freshly exfoliated skin is more sun-sensitive).

Vellus hair grows back the same color and texture—NOT thicker or darker (that's a myth). Recommended every 3 to 4 weeks. Avoid retinoids, acids, and scrubs for 2 to 3 days. Pregnancy-safe. Skip if you have active acne, sunburn, or open skin in the treatment area.

What is dermaplaning?

No. That's a persistent myth. Dermaplaning removes vellus hair at the surface—it doesn't affect the hair follicle or change the hair's color, texture, or growth pattern. Vellus hair grows back at the same baseline. Coarser facial hair (chin, upper lip) is a different type entirely and isn't typically treated with dermaplaning.

Will dermaplaning make my hair grow back thicker or darker?

Every 3–4 weeks. Vellus hair grows back at that rate, and your skin's full cell turnover cycle is roughly 28 days. Treating more frequently doesn't add benefit. Many patients schedule it before events for the flawless-makeup effect.

How often should I get dermaplaning?

Not at all. It feels like a slight scratchy or tickling sensation. The blade glides over your skin at a specific angle. Most patients find it relaxing. No anesthesia needed.

Does dermaplaning hurt?

Generally yes—it's mechanical exfoliation without chemicals, so it's appropriate for many sensitive skin types. We avoid dermaplaning on active acne, broken skin, sunburn, or active rosacea flares. Otherwise it's well-tolerated across skin types.

Is dermaplaning safe for sensitive skin?

Yes—commonly combined with facials, chemical peels, and Glo2 treatments. Dermaplaning before a peel allows deeper product penetration. Before a facial mask, the active ingredients absorb better. We can add it to most other treatments for an enhanced result.

Can dermaplaning be combined with other treatments?

Yes—mechanical exfoliation is pregnancy-safe. One of the few exfoliating treatments that doesn't introduce any active chemicals. Tell us at booking so we can avoid retinoid-containing products in your post-treatment routine.

Can I dermaplane during pregnancy?

Minimal. Skin may feel slightly tight for a few hours. Mild redness possible but uncommon. Skip exfoliating products (acids, retinoids, scrubs) for 2–3 days. Use heavy moisturizer and SPF immediately. Don't pick at skin.

What's the recovery from dermaplaning?

Indirectly—removing dead skin and vellus hair makes lines less noticeable and allows your products (especially serums and retinoids) to penetrate better, which improves their efficacy. Dermaplaning itself doesn't build collagen. For deeper lines, pair with microneedling or peels over a series.

Will dermaplaning help with fine lines?

Not directly. We avoid dermaplaning over active acne (the blade can spread bacteria). For acne scarring (the textural kind), microneedling is far more effective. Dermaplaning is maintenance, not treatment for those concerns.
