What it is
Laser treatments at The Spa by Sheena target a range of concerns: unwanted hair, pigmentation, sun damage, melasma, acne, tattoos, and skin tone. We use multiple devices, each suited to specific indications. PiQo4 handles facial rejuvenation and tattoo removal, IPL targets pigmentation and vascular concerns, and a dedicated diode system handles hair removal.
What's included
Laser facials, photo facials (IPL) for body areas, laser hair removal organized by anatomical region, tattoo removal across multiple sessions and tattoo levels, and treatment for melasma. Most laser services book directly online.
Who performs it
Laser treatments are performed by Angela Hunsaker (RN, Aesthetic Nurse) and our laser-certified Medical Aestheticians Victoria Henry and Posey Pence.
Our services
Lasers and light devices target specific concerns by wavelength. At The Spa by Sheena we treat unwanted hair (face and body), sun damage and pigmentation, melasma, vascular concerns like spider veins and rosacea redness, active acne, acne scars, tattoos of any color, and overall facial rejuvenation. The right device depends on your skin type and what you're treating—we'll match you at consultation.
What can laser treatments treat?
Yes, when matched correctly to your skin type. Some lasers work on lighter skin only; others (like our Cynosure diode for hair removal and PiQo4 for tattoo and pigment) are safe across the Fitzpatrick scale. The single biggest cause of laser injury is the wrong device being used on the wrong skin type. We screen carefully and never use a device that isn't safe for your skin.
Are laser treatments safe for all skin tones?
Multiple sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart are required for permanent hair reduction. Hair grows in cycles, and laser only kills hair in the active growth phase—that's why a series is necessary. Total count varies by area and individual response. After your initial series, occasional maintenance treatments keep results long-term. Hormonal changes (pregnancy, PCOS, menopause) can trigger new hair growth that needs touch-ups.
How many laser hair removal sessions will I need?
Most patients describe it as a rubber band snap. Our diode laser has built-in cooling that significantly reduces discomfort compared to older devices. Sensitive areas (bikini, underarms, upper lip) feel more than other zones. We offer topical numbing for patients who want extra comfort, and most people don't need it.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
IPL (intense pulsed light) is a broadband light source—not a single-wavelength laser. It's particularly effective at treating brown spots from sun damage, redness from rosacea, and overall tone. Lasers use a single focused wavelength that's better for specific deeper targets. We use both, often in combination, depending on what we're treating.
How is IPL different from laser?
Yes. Our PiQo4 laser uses picosecond pulses to shatter tattoo ink into particles small enough for your body to clear naturally. PiQo4 works on all ink colors including blue, green, and yellow—which older Q-switched lasers struggled with. Most tattoos need 6 to 12 sessions spaced 10 to 12+ weeks apart for complete removal. Cost depends on tattoo size, color, and ink complexity.
Can lasers remove tattoos?
It depends on the treatment. Hair removal: no downtime, slight redness for a few hours. IPL photo facial: 5–7 days of dark spots gradually flaking off (totally normal). PiQo4 facial: 24–48 hours of mild redness. Laser tattoo removal: 7–14 days of mild crusting at the treatment site. We give you a written aftercare plan at every appointment.
How long is the downtime after a laser treatment?
Don't get laser treatments if you're pregnant, have a recent tan or sunburn, are taking Accutane (or have in the past 6 months), have an active herpes outbreak in the treatment area, or have certain photosensitive conditions. Some medications also need to be discussed beforehand. We screen for all of this at consultation.
When should I avoid laser treatments?
Laser pricing varies by device and area. Laser hair removal: $75–$375 per session. IPL photo facials: $250–$650. PiQo4 Laser Facial: $325. Melasma laser: $400. Tattoo removal: $99–$349 per session. Membership reduces per-session cost—see individual service pages for full details.
What does laser treatment cost in Lubbock?
You need to avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least 4 weeks before any laser treatment, including spray tans and tanning beds. Treating tanned skin is a recipe for burns and hyperpigmentation. Use SPF 30+ daily in the weeks before and after treatment. Schedule lasers for fall/winter when possible.
Can I tan or use sunscreen before laser treatment?
Sometimes—but melasma is unique among pigmentation issues because aggressive laser treatment can make it worse. We use lasers conservatively with melasma, combining gentle settings with a strong topical regimen and sun protection. Anyone promising to "zap away" melasma with a single laser session doesn't understand the condition. Our approach is layered and ongoing.
Can lasers treat melasma?
You don't have to know. Book a free laser consultation and we'll evaluate your skin, talk through your goals, and recommend the right device and protocol. Wrong-device treatments are the #1 cause of unsatisfying laser results. Call (806) 701-5840 or book online.
