What to expect
You've just had your electrolysis session. Unlike laser, electrolysis works follicle by follicle and produces permanent results across all hair colors and skin tones. The treated area may show small pinpoint bumps and mild redness immediately after — that's expected. This guide covers the 24-hour window and the cadence of treatments.
Why this matters
Electrolysis destroys the hair follicle at the source using a fine probe and electrical current, which is why it produces permanent rather than reduction results. The treated follicles are briefly open and reactive after the session, so keeping them clean and avoiding heat, sweat, and active ingredients for the first 24 hours prevents irritation, breakouts, or pigment changes around the treatment site.
Aftercare restrictions
1
Avoid sweating, strenuous exercise, saunas, soaking in a bath, hot tub, or pool for 24 hours following treatment.
2
Avoid all active skincare ingredients in the treated area — including AHAs, BHAs, retinols, and exfoliating products — for 24 hours.
3
Wear loose, breathable clothing to minimize friction on treated areas.
Post care
Wait at least 30 minutes before applying makeup or heavy products to the treated area; 24 hours is recommended.
Resume your normal skincare routine the following morning.
Keep the treated area clean and avoid touching, scratching, or picking at any small pinpoint bumps that may form.
Downtime
- Treated areas may be bumpy, red, and swollen after treatment for up to 1 day.

FAQ
Your questions, answered
We’ve answered some of the most common questions below to help make your experience simple, transparent, and stress-free.
Electrolysis is FDA-approved permanent hair removal that uses a fine probe inserted alongside each hair follicle. A brief electrical current destroys the follicle's ability to regrow hair. Each hair is treated individually. It's the only hair removal method classified as truly permanent by the FDA.
What is electrolysis and how does it work?
Laser treats large areas quickly but targets pigment in the hair—doesn't work on white, gray, or very light hair. Electrolysis works on any hair color and skin tone because it doesn't rely on pigment. Electrolysis is slower (one hair at a time) but truly permanent. Laser is faster with high reduction; electrolysis is the choice for permanent on any hair color.
How is electrolysis different from laser hair removal?
Treatments are recommended every 2 to 4 weeks, or as often as hair growth occurs. Multiple sessions are required to achieve permanent results. Most areas require 12–18+ sessions over 1–2 years for full clearance—the longer timeline reflects treating each hair individually.
How many electrolysis sessions will I need?
Each pulse is a brief pinch-and-warmth sensation. Some areas (upper lip, underarms) feel more than others. Topical numbing can be applied for sensitive patients. Most patients describe it as tolerable but not pleasant—the trade-off is permanent removal.
Does electrolysis hurt?
Any area: face (upper lip, chin, sides, brows), underarms, bikini line, body. Particularly useful for: white/gray facial hair that laser can't treat, single stubborn hairs, hormonal hair growth, transgender patients, and patients who've completed laser and have residual stubborn hairs.
What areas can electrolysis treat?
Electrolysis ranges $40–$140 depending on time and package. Pricing details available at booking. Total cost depends on density of hair and area size.
How much does electrolysis cost in Lubbock?
Yes—electrolysis works on all skin tones because it doesn't target pigment. The only safety consideration is that very dark skin needs careful technique to avoid post-treatment hyperpigmentation. We adjust settings based on your skin.
Is electrolysis safe for all skin tones?
Recovery is about 1 day. Mild redness and tiny scabs at treated follicles for 24–48 hours. Use healing ointment, avoid picking. Skip sun exposure on treated areas for 5–7 days.
What's the recovery from electrolysis?
Yes—electrolysis can permanently remove hair triggered by hormonal conditions. However, ongoing hormonal triggers may produce new hair growth in other follicles over time. Patients with PCOS or active hormonal influences may need maintenance for new growth. Combining with hormonal management (under medical care) produces best long-term results.
Will electrolysis work on hormonal hair growth (PCOS, etc.)?
Book a consultation. We'll examine the area, discuss whether electrolysis or laser is the right choice for your hair type and goals, and design a treatment schedule. Most patients combine an initial laser series (for bulk hair) with electrolysis touch-ups (for remaining stubborn hairs). Call (806) 701-5840 or book online.
